The Commerce + Ecosystems (C+E) Finance team, part of Microsoft Corporate Finance and Services, is at the center of Microsoft’s digital transformation. The team’s charter is to advance C+E online business agenda by designing and delivering Financial capabilities to support launches and to ensure accurate and compliant online Financial Reporting.
(C+E) is Microsoft’s Online Commerce platform that supports billing, payment and collection, developer payouts and fulfillment through all of Microsoft’s online marketplaces (Azure, Office, Xbox, Microsoft.com, etc.). As we modernize our commercial offerings and converge our consumer storefronts, the volume of transactions on the platform is experiencing a very significant growth.

Responsibilities

We are looking for an experienced Senior Finance Manager in Revenue Recognition and Reporting with the responsibility to support the Revenue Assurance framework across Microsoft Online products portfolio and platforms. This role will partner closely with various Finance, Operations and Engineering teams to understand products, Systems architecture, selling motions and to perform revenue analysis and adjustments.
This position will play a key role in ensuring revenue compliance for Azure and Cloud offerings across the various lines of businesses

Core responsibilities

The Senior Finance Manager scope will include, but not limited to, the following:
Revenue Recognition and Financial Reporting & Analysis: Be familiar with GAAP, contract review process, controls framework, and accounting policies to identify potential financial impact through reviews of contracts, processes, and data analysis. Determine corrective actions that should be taken (e.g., posting of accounting entries, design and executing controls, influencing for change in system features). This will also require deep understanding of both products and services offered, and system functionality.

Revenue Recognition: Review contract amendments and enforce credit policy to determine the revenue recognition impacts and treatment based on the deep understanding of products/ services and accounting policies.
Provide guidance to stakeholders to ensure revenue related risks / issues are appropriately captured, communicated, mitigated and managed.
Analyze and present executive financial results performance to leadership teams.
Develop strong business partnerships with various functions including Azure Engineering and Operations, Regional Operations Centers, Business Desk, Corporate Accounting and Engineering Group through deep understanding of their business and proactive financial management. Build trusted relationship by being a collaborative partner who can listen, on board different perspectives and deliver on its commitments.
Compliance: Ensure that monthly financial results are stated accurately and in accordance with accounting policy, design and perform revenue controls across our products portfolio to ensure compliant revenue recognition.
Readiness: Understand, assess inpact and update revenue recognition operational processes for new program and product offerings.
Perform validation of products’ revenue configuration in the Systems.
Develop a solid understanding of end to end processes, data flows, control environment and financial systems supporting the Azure transaction flow.

Qualifications

The successful candidate will be a highly motivated individual who has the ability to work through ambiguity, proactively solve problems, and drive process improvement, along with:

A Professional BA/BS degree in finance, accounting, business, economics is required with a minimum of 6 years of relevant work experience in Revenue Accounting / Contract reviews / Internal controls.
Strong knowledge of financial / reporting systems (experience with Microsoft financial systems and processes is a plus), internal controls and familiarity with GAAP.
Ability to work in an ambiguous and fast paced environment. Detail oriented & thorough, with ability to think “big picture”.
Excellent cross-group collaboration, communication, and partnership competencies. Ability to mobilize a diverse team to a common goal,
Highly effective individual who can work independently with excellent organization skills - ability to manage multiple, competing projects/priorities.
