Author Health seeks a bilingual behavioral health nurse practitioner (PMHNP) to provide clinical care on a multidisciplinary team providing remote virtual-first care to seniors with serious mental illness (SMI).
WHAT IS YOUR SUPERPOWER?
- Perform virtual initial psychiatric assessments, and follow-up care, to seniors with serious mental illness, through collaboration with a psychiatrist
- Create treatment plans that may involve prescribing medication, referring to psychotherapy or other modalities of treatment, and determining whether referrals to higher levels of care are warranted
- Work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team to address patients’ physical, behavioral health and social needs, including psychiatry (MD/DO/NP), primary care, social work, community health workers and care coordinators
- Deliver patient care and patient education in a manner that is appropriate to a patient’s age, physical ability, educational level, and culture, potentially involving the patient’s family members in this process
- Participate in the coordination of care with PCPs and other medical professionals who are taking care of patients
- Be comfortable seeing patients when they need to be seen and doing psychiatric urgent care
- When necessary, order laboratory and imaging workup
- Timely and comprehensive documentation of clinical work in the electronic health record
- Perform similar or related duties as assigned or required
- Comfort working within a new care delivery paradigm and fast-paced environment
WHAT WE ARE SEEKING:
- Board-certified PMHNP licensed to practice in Florida and/or Texas, or able to obtain Florida and Texas licenses required and accompanying DEAs for each state
- Bilingual in Spanish
- Self-starter, takes initiative, comfort with ambiguity and working in a growing environment
- Excitement about providing care to patients with SMI in a new care paradigm
- Passion about improving the lives of patients and their caregivers, and improving care delivery
- Experience treating patients with serious mental illness (preferred: experience treating seniors), and patients with dementia
- Prior experience working in an ED or urgent care clinic as a psychiatric NP is a plus
- Greater than five years of experience providing direct psychiatric care is required; greater than seven years preferred
- Experience working on a multidisciplinary team of providers is a plus
- Comfort managing patients with complex medical and psychosocial needs
- Experience working in a collaborative care model is highly preferred
- Full-time, 40h/week (anticipate 30h/week direct virtual patient care), with occasional on-call responsibilities
This role is fully remote. Physical requirements include the ability to use a computer. Minimal travel, up to 10% anticipated.
