Number of Positions:
- Handle employee in-person and telephone personnel inquiries and process employee requests, such
as leaves, reinstatements, transfers, or any change of information including updates to the
- Responsible for checking employee’s personnel and time & attendance records in the system (CATA)
to ensure information is accurate prior to making changes
- Data entry in the self-service CHIPPS system, including PER-14’s
- Print system reports to analyze employee’s eligibility
- Follow through on employee’s criminal background checks and drug testing procedures when needed
- Follow-up with various operating departments to ensure all updates are in the system
- Communicate with sister agencies such as the Pension Board and the Benefit Office to ensure
employee’s records are up-to-date
- File and maintain personnel and medical records
- Provide written and oral employment verification
- I-clear processing for fingerprints
- Assist with the City’s Wellness Program
- Assist with off-site records management
- Process merit increases and suspensions in CATA, CHIPPS, and also PER-34’s
- May occasionally work off-site to test applicants and for orientation

THIS POSITION IS IN THE CAREER SERVICE.
Two years of work experience in human resources/personnel work AND/OR an Associate's Degree or higher from an accredited college or university in Human Resources, Business Administration or a directly related field

This position requires the ability to access and retrieve files, supplies and proprietary documents from storage and supply cabinets, and pack and move documents for on and off-site storage, which includes the ability to kneel, bend, stoop, lift.
You must provide your transcripts and/or diploma at time of processing, if applicable.

Preference will be given to candidates possessing the following:

- AA Degree or higher in Human Resources, Business Administration or a directly related field
- Previous work experience performing Human Resources/Personnel duties
- Proficiency using Microsoft Office Word, Excel & Outlook
- Proficiency using Oracle-based software
The City of Chicago offers Veterans Preference to both current, active military personnel AND military personnel who have served in the Armed Forces of the United States and have received an honorable or general discharge. Eligible candidates must have at least six months of active duty documented. In order to receive the veterans preference, candidates need to indicate whether or not they are a veteran by answering "yes" or "no" to the question on the online application that asks, "Are you currently serving on active duty for at least six months in the Armed Forces of the United States OR have you served in the Armed Forces of the United States on active duty for at least six months and received an honorable or general discharge?" In addition, you must attach documentation to verify your military service. Failure to answer the question and attach the required documentation will result in you not being considered for the Veterans Preference.
