Position Summary

This position is focused on communicating the various services we provide to meet the Company’s mission of providing world-class energy solutions to meet the diverse and unique needs of our customers and employees. Responsible for communications plan development, execution, and measurement in order to meet Company and department goals.

Strategizes on effective communication solutions for engaging a variety of audiences/stakeholders, including but not limited to customers, employees, the public, news media, etc. Aligns message with brand and maintains corporate image. Collaborates with peers, stakeholders and others to execute communications objectives. Manages a team of communications professionals, facilitating collaboration, initiative and creativity. Ensures accuracy and effectiveness of messaging. Reviews results/outcomes and shares data with team members, peers and others to improve continuously. Trains, mentors and guides employees for the purpose of mutually benefitting the company and the individual.

Tasks and Responsibilities

Plan, execute, and measure public relations efforts in support of CPS Energy’s mission, “People First” philosophy, and the company’s safety culture.
Core responsibilities focus on operational aspects of the organization and strategic focus.
Proactively pitch news stories to local, regional, and national media sources.
Work with management to establish an internal communications strategy
Ensure organizational initiatives and projects are successfully communicated to employees and stakeholders
Plan, edit and write content for a variety of internal communications mediums
Collaborate with various internal departments to ensure communications goals are met
Identifies improvements in existing processes needed to increase the level of efficiency
Serves as part of the media relations and on-call team responsible for expediting media inquiries and monitoring the CPS Energy media phone line
Adapts to changing requirements of business areas supported and develops new recommendations/solutions as needed.
Represents Corporate Communications at internal/external meetings to collaborate and strategize on various projects, initiatives or potential media issues.
Manages and assesses team performance, ensuring that measures are in place to evaluate the success of individual and team efforts.
Provides regular reporting to director, peers, or others, as required.
Actively supports the efforts of Communications management team, taking the initiative to identify needs, problem solve, and work collaboratively
Stays on top of industry trends in energy, public relations, and social media
Includes supervisory responsibilities
Performs other project and process improvement initiatives as assigned
Minimum Skills

Minimum Knowledge and Abilities

Demonstrated ability to multi-task various critical work assignments proactively and independently in a fast paced environment and in a professional manner.

Demonstrated experience in people leading; management of teams to ensure projects are on track and completed

Demonstrated well-developed written and verbal communications skills for interaction within the section, across departmental lines to all levels of personnel, and vertically with management.

Solid knowledge of project management principles and Associated Press Style

Demonstrated positive interpersonal behaviors toward CPS Energy, associates, and customers consistent with company core values.

Initiative to work independently or as a member of a team, coordinating with others to achieve desired results

Makes some independent decisions and often makes recommendations which affect the section, department and/or division

Possesses and applies a broad knowledge of principles, practices and procedures of a particular field of specialization to complete difficult assignments

Ability to set priorities, organize work and make occasional exceptions.

Proficient in Microsoft Office Package, including word processing, spreadsheets, database, presentation software, electronic mail and scheduling

Strong planning and analytical skills; ability to assess complex situations, make decisions and manage projects from start to a positive outcome

Experience in writing for multiple communication platforms

Ability to work in a variety of locations such as the field, construction centers and the main office

Preferred Qualifications

Extensive experience in developing communications for a variety of channels and audiences in a corporate environment, large public entity, or a public relations agency.

Minimum Education

Bachelor's Degree in Public Relations, Journalism, Communications or Related Field from an accredited university. or Extensive experience in related field.

Required Certifications

Working Environment

Indoor work, operating computer, manual dexterity, talking, hearing, repetitive motion. Use of personal computing equipment, telephone, multi-functioning printer and calculator. Ability to travel between business related events. Work hours may be extended.
