Job Overview:
Macy's Technology is looking for a Technology Fellow to provide strategy thought leadership, innovation & research, engineering and technology leadership in the areas of Curated Customer Experience, Interconnected Retail, Omni Channel Order Management, and Global Supply Chain. We are looking for someone who has transformed legacy applications & systems into next generation cloud native platforms on GCP or Azure. This person will provide thought leadership as we begin our journey on building a common service Omni platform. The successful candidate would have demonstrated deep domain knowledge in Retail, Omni-Commerce, Digital and Supply Chain, Data Science and Algorithmic Retail including staying abreast with industry and competitive trends. In addition, clear appreciation of future technology trends and proven track record of innovation is required. This role requires a fine balance between hands-on engineering and technology thought leadership. Will lead a small team of top engineering talent. This role can report into VP/SVP/EVP of Macy’s Technology. Perform other duties as assigned.

Essential Functions:
  • Develop strategies and drives execution of legacy technology transformation to next generation platforms.
  • Collaborate across all units to understand business strategy & align technology approach.
  • Development and delivery of reference architectures that will be used across the organization to enable standardized / common service solutions.
  • Communicate complex technical choices and tradeoffs in easy to understand, business-friendly language.
  • Curates innovation pipeline, builds test & learn frameworks, executes POC’s and enables organization to scale proven strategies.
  • Owns and leads the vision, strategy, and adoption of cloud. Drives world-class design and development of high scalable cloud native Omni platforms.
  • Evangelizes cloud automation and be a thought leader and expert defining standards for building and maintaining cloud platforms. Ability to explain constraints, limitations, and best practices to leverage cloud offerings.
  • Develop best practices around securing and leveraging cloud services.
  • Recommend cost-effective strategies to migrate existing workloads to cloud.
  • Balance standardized solution recommendations with business unit requirements.
  • Regular, dependable attendance & punctuality.
Decision Making:
  • Ability to balance short-term tactical decisions with long-term strategic thinking.
  • BA/BS in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field preferred.
  • 15+ years of experience in software engineering and leading enterprise-wide architecture in retail required.
  • 10+ years of experience leading platforms modernization to leverage private & public cloud offerings.
  • 5+ years of experience with cloud-native applications in GCP, Azure, AWS required.
  • Experience in multi-channel retail technologies across the entire retail value chain required.
  • Experience in transforming legacy applications and systems into next generation cloud native platforms on GCP or Azure.
  • Deep experience in cloud computing architecture, technical design and implementations including right fit of Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS), Platform as a Service (PaaS) and Software as a Service (SaaS) delivery models.
  • Deep knowledge of cloud infrastructure components and experience with Business continuity and long-term data management in cloud environments.
  • Experience with overall Application Security landscape, including security aspects of DMZ, firewalls, CDN, load balancers, AuthN/AuthZ, user flows, code logic, Java security frameworks, etc.
  • Deep technical understanding of Java/J2EE, REST and SOAP services, Hibernate, JMS, Kafka, Cloud/Microservices, Caching, Security, Distributed Processing, SQL, and NoSQL.
Proficiency in configuration management tools such as Chef/Puppet/Ansible.

  • Proven track record in data mining, predictive analytics, data driven algorithmic retail and machine learning frameworks.
  • Experience driving architecture and platforms modernization in a highly matrixed organization required.
  • Experience working with large tier-1 offshore vendors and teams required.
  • Experience with modern tech stack and open source technologies required.
  • Experience in recruiting, hiring, and training diverse personnel in software engineering, architecture, engineering management, and operations.

  • Demonstrable presentation, written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
Mathematical Skills:
  • Basic math functions such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and analytical skills.

  • Ability to effectively learn and use new programming concepts, tools and methodology to support the needs of the business.
