FirstLight Power Resources (FLPR) is a New England power generation and energy storage company that owns and operates a strong portfolio of hydroelectric generation, energy storage, and Class I renewable energy generation. FLPR’s New England generation fleet includes run-of-river hydro-electric facilities, pumped storage hydro-electric facilities, traditional hydro-electric facilities, and a solar farm.

Position:

Reporting to the Director of Finance & Accounting and based in Burlington, MA, the Manager, Accounting & Technical Reporting will be responsible for managing accounting operations and financial reporting in addition to providing input into the budgeting and forecasting process for a complex group of companies. Responsibilities include researching technical accounting literature for application to financial reporting. Treasury and cash management will also be included in this role.

This individual will play an important role in the establishment of the policies and procedures for the department as it transitions to the Burlington corporate office. The transition process will include building a team of two accountants with the goal of creating a collaborative team of accounting professionals working closely together in the preparation of timely and accurate financials information for various entities and senior management.

Primary Duties:

  • Manage the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual consolidated and subsidiary financial statements.
  • Manage the internal and external annual audit process, including the coordination of planning activities.
  • Monitor capital asset policies and procedures and manage the tracking of capital assets, capital spending, and reporting.
  • Support the quarterly forecasting and annual budgeting process and provide ongoing support to department heads.
  • Remain informed of current and proposed accounting standards/practices and assess the impact of accounting changes on financial statements, procedures, and internal controls.
  • Provide accounting research and analysis of significant contracts and complex accounting transactions.
  • Management and oversight of the company’s treasury and cash management activities.
  • Review best practices and recommend continuous improvement efforts in financial reporting and accounting.
  • Actively work to foster an environment of effective and collaborative working relationships amongst employees, management, and external partners.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in financial discipline. CPA preferred.
  • 8+ years of progressive experience in industry or public accounting.
  • 5+ years of reporting experience with extensive knowledge of US GAAP.
  • Management experience with hiring and training a team is a plus
  • Strong analytical skills and proficiency with MS Office including the ability to develop financial models utilizing advanced Excel functions.
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Strong working knowledge of Sage 300 or similar accounting software.
  • Proven ability to adhere to reporting deadlines.
  • Ability to travel in MA and CT as needed.
