The Director of Talent Acquisition is responsible for developing and implementing recruiting strategies that maximize recruiting efficiency and secure high caliber, diverse talent for ETSU. This leadership position in Human Resources will collaboratively work with leadership in academic unites, health sciences, and other university functions. This position will work in conjunction with HR, University leadership and Talent Acquisition team members to support ETSU’s organizational and strategic goals, advancing the University’s efforts to be a Best Place to Work.

The Talent Acquisition Director will monitor the status of recruitment activities and analyze data and trends to determine effectiveness and overall success of recruitment plans. This role will be responsible for inspiring Talent Acquisition and HR team members to embrace innovative sourcing strategies and techniques, which engage both active and passive candidates. In addition, the Director of Talent Acquisition is responsible for ensuring a strong focus on candidate, partner, and customer experiences and is responsible for leading ETSU’s efforts to identify and recruit the best available talent for all areas of the University.

Reporting the University’s Chief Operating Officer, and serve as a member of the HR leadership team, the Director of Talent Acquisition oversees all elements of the recruitment process including:

  • Building talent pipelines for current and future job openings
  • Leading all talent sourcing strategies
  • Implementing online and offline employer branding activities
  • Overseeing all stages of the candidate experience (including application, interviews and communication)
  • Forecasting hiring needs based on business growth plans
  • Managing, training and evaluating recruiters
  • Participating in and hosting recruitment events to drive awareness of our company
  • Developing a network of potential future hires (e.g. past applicants and referred candidates)
  • Measuring key recruitment metrics, like source of hire and time-to-hire
  • Partnering with HR staff and advising University leadership on talent acquisition strategies and best practices


The successful candidate will have:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Minimum 7-10 years of experience leading a talent acquisition function, preferably in an academic or healthcare setting or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Deep experience and knowledge of HR technology tools including applicant tracking systems, HRIS, CRM and social media
  • Experience developing candidate pipelines and creating proactive recruitment processes
  • Proven experience developing and leading recruitment staff


  • In-depth knowledge of best practices in talent recruitment and employee branding
  • Outstanding internal consulting skills; ability to build relationships with Human Resources partners and contribute to an HR leadership team
  • Outstanding communication skills: ability to establish self as a trusted advisor to University staff and search committees
  • Process orientation; ability to establish efficient and scalable hiring processes
