New Visions Charter High Schools is a network of secondary schools dedicated to supporting all students in meeting high academic standards. We challenge our students to present and defend their learning as part of preparing and supporting them to graduate ready for college, careers and a 21st century economy. Teaching and learning in New Visions Charter High schools is informed by challenge-based curricula that are aligned to Common Core Standards and driven by student performance data. Our students, faculty, staff and leadership are resources for the community in which the schools are located.
Under the guidance and supervision of the Director of Operations, the Program Officer will play a key role supporting the work of the charter schools as part of the New Visions Charter Management Organization (CMO). The Charter Operations unit is configured to provide maximum support to schools in key operational areas. The Program Officer serves as an integral member of the Charter Operations unit and will participate in and support all facets of the unit’s work.
Core Duties and Responsibilities:
GENERAL SYSTEMS MANAGEMENT
Coordinate with New Visions technology and data teams to ensure the integration of systems such as PowerSchool, NVPS Data Portal, ATS and any other systems used by the schools.
Ensure schools are trained and have technical support on the PowerSchool platform, which is used for period attendance, tracking discipline infractions, course grades, progress reports and report cards.
Liaise with New Visions Data team to create and update additional tools support the use of data at the school level.
Systems implementation through importing, exporting and data entry of student data to PowerSchool, the charter schools’ student information and reporting system.
In partnership with school staff, provide quality assurance of student data in PowerSchool
In conjunction with the Program Officer for Student Support, train school staff in the New Visions Charter high schools to record student incidents and interventions in PowerSchool.
Provide responses to system inquiries sent by charter school staff and help troubleshoot user issues.
Communicate effectively the relationships among different student information systems used in the charter schools: PowerSchool, ATS, NVPS Data Portal, etc. and provide support to school staff in using these systems.
Assist schools regarding their understanding of the relationships between various reports and school inquiry.
Facilitate field-generated requests for data analysis and interpretation.
Provide direct technical support and capacity building to New Visions CMO and school-based staff, including teachers and school leaders, on using data to drive decision making.
Coordinate with the Managing Director of Operations, all initiative-wide data analysis and reporting.
Oversee Network-wide & Individual School PowerSchool Maintenance
Monitor push/pull of data between PowerSchool, ATS, and NVPS Data Portal
Maintain NVCHS Code Deck and Code Deck Crosswalk to ensure all current and historical course codes and titles are consistent in PowerSchool.
Liaise with NV Technology Team on use of PowerSchool as primary source of student data.
Serve as first line of support/troubleshooting for school use of PowerSchool.
Work with Computer Logic or PowerSchool for higher level technical issues, customizations and new school set up.
Collaborate with AP/School Leadership to determine the school’s program and ensure the program is set up in PowerSchool.
Ensure core classes are consistent for all school and have defined course codes in the NVCHS Code Deck.
Liaise with NV Instructional Specialists (IS) on development of courses/revision of course sequences to ensure schools’ programs are aligned with CMO priorities and IS support.
Elective/intervention courses are offered at school’s discretion.
Coordinate with NV Instructional Specialists and School Leadership on the development of course offerings, content pathways and assessment.
Understanding how IS’s are conceptualizing course sequences each term and over multiple years provides a check on school programming.
Collaborate with ISs to ensure course sequences provide opportunities for credit accumulation and remediation.
CHARTER NETWORK SUPPORT
Serve as liaison with other units at New Visions and with charter school operations staff to support operational efficiency.
Undertake special projects as needed in support of the Charter Operations Unit.
Serve as liaison between the schools and the New Visions data team with respect to data systems and reporting.
Coordinate with New Visions technology and data teams to ensure that school staff learn and use key data systems including ATS, PowerSchool, NVPS Data Portal, etc.
Provide regular professional development to staff around key data management and reporting areas.
Provide general administrative support including but not limited to planning and managing logistics associated with trainings, workshops and events, ordering and maintaining inventory of program supplies and materials related to core functions, producing presentations and training materials, etc. related to core duties and responsibilities.
Education and Experience:
BA required, working towards a Masters degree is preferred
2-5 years experience in a similar role, education experienced preferred
Previous charter school experience, a plus
Required Skill Set and Knowledge Base:
Advanced computer skills, including Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, Access, and Google Apps
Experience with PowerSchool, preferred
Strong analytical, critical thinking and organizational skills.
Excellent writing, communication, presentation, and facilitation skills
Ability to identify and analyze critical issues and problem-solve program implementation
Initiative and proven ability to work independently with minimum supervision
Demonstrated ability to prioritize, multi-task, work under pressure and meet deadlines
Excellent interpersonal and teaming skills
Ability to work effectively as a member of a team
