HDR Engineering is looking for a Substation Project Engineer to join our growing and nationally ranked team of Power Delivery professionals.

The primary duties of the Substation Project Engineer include responsibility for knowledge and execution of the technical aspects and deliverables of projects assigned and is an experienced, competent engineer who generally understands and can complete all technical requirements of projects of basic to moderate complexity.

The primary duties of the Substation Project Engineer may include:
Produce or review substation design drawings, including General Arrangements, Elevations, Bus Connection Details, Grounding Plan & Details, Conduit Plan & Details, Cable Schedules, One-Line and Three-Line Diagrams, AC/DC Schematics, and Wiring Diagrams.
Ability to perform AC & DC auxiliary design and calculations.
Coordinate design and tasks with project team members on small to moderately complex projects.
Perform Quality Control (QC) design reviews and provide technical guidance to junior team members.
Develop/edit technical specifications for equipment apparatus and facility construction
Manage workload to complete tasks on schedule and within budget.
Work with senior engineers and the technical leaders to identify and develop specific technical expertise and will attend training and seminars focused on further development and understanding of complex concepts related to their discipline.
May assist with developing technical papers and/or presentations that showcase HDR’s technical capabilities at industry conferences or other events.
Works independently and may direct, mentor, train, and/or supervise efforts of less-experienced EIT's and/or Designers.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in Electrical, Mechanical or Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited program.
Professional Engineer (PE) license or commitment to obtain PE. .
5+ years of electrical substation facility design experience, including both physical (apparatus) and electrical (protection & control) experience.
Knowledge and application of the National Electrical Safety Code (NESC).
Proficient with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel).
Strong written and verbal communication skills preferred.
Experience providing technical leadership.
An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must.
Some travel may be required.
Permanent authorization to work in the United States of America.

Preferred Qualifications:
Experience using industry design software such as AutoDesk AutoCAD and Bentley MicroStation.
Experience with BIM design using industry design software such as AutoDesk Inventor or similar.
Knowledge and application of Rural Utility Service (RUS) design requirements.
Knowledge and application of NFPA 70, National Electrical Code (NEC).
Experience with basic protective relay settings and SCADA design.
Previous consulting firm experience desired.
