The Team Publicist is part of the Philadelphia Union Communications Department, acting as the main driver for club media opportunities and exposure across the Delaware Valley. This role is designed to help the Union get wider in the marketplace. Interested candidates should be strong relationship builders and have experience with media pitching and placing. This role works closely with First Team players and technical staff.
Generate and pitch creative story ideas for local/national media outlets as well as official Philadelphia Union channels.
Form relationships with media members and influencers in order to curate opportunities to grow the Union brand.
Develop media pitches based on marketing platforms (kit launches, eSports, pediatric cancer awareness, and more)
Create unique PR worthy media stunts that draw news coverage
Leverage cultural happenings for media integration opportunities (holidays, moms/dads/grads, back to school, etc.)
Player appearance request review and coordination with internal departments and outside requestors.
Manage “pitch list” – a living document listing of active enterprise public relations activity.
Plan and execute media hospitality initiatives.
Support Director, Communications in execution of various team initiatives and campaigns.
Bachelor’s Degree in related field.
At least three years of experience in media relations, pitching, and story placing, preferably within the Philadelphia market.
Strong interpersonal relationship building - able to work with varied personalities in professional manner and form quick connections.
Ability to take initiative and work independently while contributing to overall organizational goals and priorities.
High organizational skills.
Knowledge of soccer and MLS, with experience working in professional sports locker room setting previously a plus.
Ability to speak multiple languages a plus.
This role is expected to work all Union home matches.
