The Specialty Materials segment manufactures products that provide more than 150 material formulations for glass, glass ceramics and fluoride crystals to meet demand for unique customer needs. Consequently, this segment operates in a wide variety of commercial and industrial markets that include display optics and components, semiconductor optics components, aerospace and defense, astronomy, ophthalmic products, telecommunications components and cover glass that is optimized for portable display devices.

Scope of position:
In this role, you will support early stage manufacturing (both process and equipment) to prototype and eventually transfer to production parts and assemblies for high precision electro-optical assemblies and components. This includes:

Creation of routers defining the manufacturing process for precision housings, lenses, mirrors and/or assemblies.
Identifying quality requirements and necessary data to be collected during the manufacturing process through instruction within the router, the creation of data sheets, and FAI documents
We will support or lead continuous improvement activities, new product or process introductions, and cost reduction projects using lean six sigma practices
Working with other team members to take on difficult technical engineering related problems

Required education:
BS - Bachelor of Science in Engineering (Materials, Mechanical, Industrial or Equivalent)

Required skills:
We need 5+ years of manufacturing experience
Strong technical fundamentals with process engineering skills
Handle multiple complex tasks and set priorities
Collaborate across organizational boundaries and integrate solutions
Communicate and present results to both internal and external customers
Creative/innovative problem solving
Strong data analysis and interpretation skills
Basic knowledge of Six Sigma (DMAIC) methodology

Desired skills:
We prefer knowledge of reflective and refractive optics and assemblies
Multi-axis machine tool knowledge and programming skills
Knowledge of Diamond Turning and Polishing
SolidWorks experience
Experience with A&D systems development

Soft skills:
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Personal initiative, commitment, and desire to learn
Organized with good planning and time management skills
Ability to build relationships within multi-functional groups; team building skills
Positive attitude, flexible and good work ethic
