Under minimal supervision, the Principal Consultant performs project work of a complex nature. Project work may include technical analyses or may require facilitation of a large multi-disciplinary group of senior administrators and/or medical leaders. The Principal Consultant may work individually, as lead consultant of a project team, or in a consulting capacity for projects not directly assigned. Performs analyses related to area of technical expertise and may train other staff members in these areas. The Principal Consultant serves as a technical consultant to other HFHS departments, prepares reports and recommendations for management, and coordinates implementation whenever possible. The Principal Consultant may supervise tasks of Consultants, Senior Consultants or Analysts. He/she communicates regularly with Senior Management on specific projects.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Conducts review of organization and functional areas on a project basis; acts as project lead for individual or team projects.
Serves as facilitator of multi-disciplinary project teams; guides teams through complex process/function changes.
Provides consulting advice to management of revenue cycle, operations or clinical areas.
Documents current systems and operations.
Analyzes client systems, procedures, and operations and identifies opportunities for improvement.
Assists in the implementation of revised or new methods.
Prepares written and verbal presentations of findings, conclusions, and recommendations.
Guides Consultants, Senior Consultants and Analysts in performing operations analysis and decision support activities.
Identifies internal staff development needs and opportunities for improvement or enhancement of staff skills.
As project lead, has the following additional responsibilities:
Developing and defining project scope and objectives,
Developing and refining project work plan,
Guiding day-to-day activities of the project team,
Supplying periodic project updates to client and to revenue cycle leadership,
Preparing project management reports, and
Coordinating the written and verbal presentation of findings, conclusions, and recommendations.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
A Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field is required. A degree in industrial or related engineering, business administration.
A Master's Degree Preferred.
Five (5) years organizational performance improvement experience is required
Two-three (2-3) years of consulting experience is required.
Previous healthcare experience is strongly preferred.
Ability to manage large, complex, simultaneous assignments with potentially conflicting priorities and deadlines.
Ability to lead/provoke the thinking of senior level administrators.
Strong leadership/mentoring skills applicable to lead multi-disciplinary teams.
Strong interpersonal skills; ability to communicate effectively with all levels of management and staff across the System.
Strong base of analytical/technical, facilitative, and process improvement knowledge.
Strong oral and written communication skills.
Strong diplomacy and collaboration skills.
Lean, Six Sigma, or equivalent industry training and experience preferred.
