Your Role and Responsibilities
IBM's Tech Re-Entry program is looking for talented technical professionals who are looking to restart their technical careers after an absence from the workforce of 24 months or more. This paid apprenticeship will enable you to work on projects that match your expertise, interests, and abilities and could lead to full-time employment. During your IBM Tech Re-Entry apprenticeship program, you will have the opportunity to update your skills in a contemporary work environment. You will have access to the latest tools and technologies available and work alongside a multi-disciplinary teams to hone your expertise and deliver on client-critical solutions. You'll be able to experience the breadth of IBM resources while developing new skills and relationships. Re-Entry hires participate in ~6 month apprenticeships to refresh skills and prepare for transition to full time opportunities. The experience provides personalized technical learning to update and gain additional skills; earning badges and credentials along the way.

Looking for an individual with computer background in coursework along with any involvement or exposure to IBM Z mainframes and associated operating systems (z/OS, Linux on Z, z/VM) and or databases/middleware.
Programming languages such as Rexx or Python would be a plus. This individual will grow in this role to be able to perform the following functions:
1) Install of IBM Z processors including considerations for networking and storage associated with the processor.
2) Creation and execution of system gens used to define the IBM Z environments on the processor.
3) Management and control of the CPU's on thr machine, including General CPs, IFLs, and other specialty engines.
4) Installation and support of operating systems on the processor, including z/OS, Linux on Z , z/VM, and others as needed.
5) Build systems/environments required for our benchmarks and proof of concepts, along with clean-up activities when projects are complete
In order to qualify for this apprenticeship, applicant must have been out of the work force for a minimum of 2 years
Required Technical and Professional Expertise
- 2 years of IT related education, exposure and familiarity with the IBM Z HW and SW environments
Preferred Technical and Professional Expertise
- 4 years of IT related education, 1 to 2 years experience in System Programming on an IBM Z processor
