The Vehicle & Heavy Equipment Maintenance Manager is a hands on position, responsible for the day-to-day maintenance and annual inspections of various armored military vehicles, tugs, GSE and other equipment at Flying Heritage & Combat Armor Museum. This includes working with direct reports and with vendors to oversee all routine, scheduled, and emergency vehicle maintenance. In addition, they will perform operations and servicing of military vehicles and ground support equipment.


Responsible for scheduling, maintaining and documenting preventative maintenance programs and annual inspections for military vehicles and FHCAM ground support equipment.
Daily supervision of the maintenance functions including maintenance planning and scheduling of artifacts and personnel; requires incumbent to prioritize daily, weekly, monthly and yearly work on all artifacts.
Gives safety and loss prevention primary consideration with other factors that affect daily business through diverse mechanisms including, but not limited to, Safety Reviews, counseling, promptly correcting unsafe conditions, holding and documenting regular safety meetings.
Manages team including: hiring, vacation scheduling, determining workload, staff coverage, days and hours worked, overtime, and maintenance.
Manages and assists maintenance personnel (Lead Technician and Technician) in the on-time completion of maintenance to ensure artifact operational readiness.
Ensures that employees are trained and qualified to perform the maintenance procedures assigned to them and maintains employee training records.
Authorize billing/expenditures and monitors invoices, adjustments and credits for purchases and services.
Responsible for assisting the Operations Analyst in developing budget and maintenance forecasts.
Coordinates maintenance activities with Sr. Manager, Lead Technician and in collaboration with senior staff regarding event participation.
Responsible for directing, implementing and complying with all laws and regulations governing safety, health and environmental protection.
Approves work completed by outside maintenance agencies as required under the authority of the Sr. Manager.
Operation of FHCAM Military vehicles, equipment and artifacts for training and display purposes.
Work with Sr Manager, Restorations & Maintenance to recommend vehicle maintenance and operations manuals, policies and procedures.
Oversee and perform artifact improvement projects and minor artifact restoration projects on FHCAM military vehicles and other armor related artifacts.
Assist in planning and coordination of military vehicles for events hosted by or attended by FHCAM.
Responsible for keeping military vehicle and artifact log books current. Additionally, keeping filed records of work in progress, work completed or work carried over.
Responsible for training FHCAM personnel in accordance with the FHCAM Vehicle Operating Manual and specific training procedures on vehicle/armor operations when applicable.
Responsible for scheduling and working with vendors associated with vehicle and GSE maintenance, such as parts suppliers.
Purchase related supplies and equipment within budget requirements.
Maintain good housekeeping practices and assists with cleaning of hangar, shop and storage areas
Operation of Ground Support Equipment to include but not limited to ground power units, fork lift, man lift and tugs.
Assist in set up and tear down of events.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Responsible for ensuring compliance with all Vulcan Policies and Procedures.

Knowledge, experience, skill, and/or ability


Experience managing a team to carry out complex vehicle maintenance.
Experience in maintenance planning.
Experience with product evaluation, vendor selection and working with outside maintenance agencies.
Knowledge of all maintenance tools and equipment, and ability to use them effectively and safely.
General knowledge of, but not limited to electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, fuel and oil systems; Gas, Propane and Diesel engines, transmissions and gear boxes.
Ability to perform routine vehicle maintenance while keeping work areas, shops and hangars clean and organized.
Ability to operate vehicles and machinery in a safe and efficient manner.
Maintain appropriate certifications, and training for safe work practices and methods.
Demonstrates honesty, responsibility, integrity and fulfillment of commitments.
Excellent organizational skills, ability to prioritize tasks.
Able to work independently, closely with others and as a member of a team.
Previous supervisory experience or training and excellent interpersonal communication skills.
Willing to work weekends and holidays, as needed.
Able to lift 50 pounds without assistance.
Reliable and dependable.

Experience with routine maintenance, heavy maintenance and operations of armored and other military vehicles.
Experience in aircraft servicing, fueling, ground handling and marshaling.
Experience with military gun and weapons systems as related to the artifacts in the FHCAM.
Computer skills

MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)

High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED); and 8 plus years relevant experience, OR equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special remarks regarding work environment, if applicable

Regular work hours are Monday thru Friday, 8:00am - 5:00pm during non-flying season. Will be required to work every other Saturday during flying season (May – September).
