This position's responsibility, under general direction from the K-12 Reading and Social Studies Programs Manager and the funding source (Team Read Executive Director and Board of Directors), is the overall coordination, supervision, organization and implementation of operations and activities of Seattle Team Read.

Sets project goals, in compliance with funding source objectives (Team Read non-profit funds/grant awards), and district literacy initiatives; in coordination with district supervisor, and Team Read non-profit leadership and staff.

Recommends new or modified services, if approved by supervisor and Team Read non-profit leadership and staff, Oversees the implementation of those services.

Ensures that project services are carried out in accordance with district policies.

Maintains and implements the Team Read program in elementary schools served by Team Read.

Represents Team Read with school administrators, teachers and other staff.

Documents agreements regarding student reader and site coordinator selections and program implementation.

Works with principals and site coordinators to determine the number of tutors to be placed at schools.

Visits tutoring sessions at participating schools on a regular basis to provide support and feedback to tutors and site coordinators to help ensure the quality of project services.

Supervises the Project Developer and the Program/Administrative Assistant.

Supervises and supports the Project Developer in planning teen recruitment; assists with recruitment, screening and placement of middle and high school students to act as reading tutors.

Oversees the implementation of training for tutors, site coordinators and site assistants.

Develops training materials in cooperation with district curriculum staff and Team Read non-profit staff members.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
Five (5) years of experience coordinating or leading a program or project that involved recruiting volunteers or other individuals to provide activities/services for a designated population, preferably with a program partnered with a school, which included responsibility for tracking expenditures and providing statistical reports; Bachelor's degree in social services; education, public administrator, or approved related field; equivalent work experience may substitute for the education requirement on a year-for-year basis; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Any equivalent combination of education, experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the work will be considered.
