Department Specialist - Community Services Department
(Part-Time, Temporary Position) 20 hours per week
Under the supervision of the Community Services Administrative Coordinator, performs a variety of customer service and office support duties of a general and specialized nature for the Community Services Department; receives and directs telephone calls and visitors; provides a variety of information to other agencies, City staff, and the general public; receives, routes, and distributes incoming and outgoing mail; and maintains a variety of files and records.
Assists and responds to requests and inquiries from the general public and outside groups and agencies by providing information related to specific program area of assignment.
Receives and directs telephone inquiries; refers calls to appropriate City staff for further assistance as needed.
Assists with processing class registrations and facility use rentals utilizing an online registration system.
Performs a variety of routine clerical duties and responsibilities; provides assistance to department staff and the general public.
Operates a variety of office equipment including a copier/facsimile machine, printer, telephone and computer; utilizes various computer applications and software packages.
Maintains accurate and up-to-date files and records for assigned areas.
Processes mail including receiving, sorting, and distributing incoming and outgoing correspondence.
Maintains office supplies and inventories; orders supplies as needed.
Performs related duties as required.
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE FOR THIS POSITION WILL:
Possess strong customer service skills.
Have the ability to work in a fast paced office with frequent interruptions and a high degree of public contact by phone and in person.
Have excellent communication skills in interacting with the public, staff and volunteers; the ability to communicate clearly and concisely in a positive manner, using tact and discretion.
Have knowledge of modern office procedures and methods.
Possess strong oral and written skills with use of good grammar.
Establish and maintain positive and effective working relationships with coworkers, supervisors and volunteers.
High School diploma or equivalent.
A minimum of one year of customer service experience involving considerable public contact.
Spanish/English bilingual skills are highly desirable.
Wage & Hours:
960 hours per fiscal year (July 1 – June 30).
No benefits accrued with the exception of enrollment in the Public Agency Retirement System (PARS).
The City of Escondido is committed to a drug and alcohol free workplace. A medical examination, along with a DRUG SCREEN will be conducted following a conditional offer of employment.
