The Nutrition Care Assistant performs a variety of duties related to receiving and processing special diet orders, to include modifying patient menus to multiple diet restrictions and preferences. Responsible for identifying appropriate menu choices for all age groups, fluid restrictions, diet restrictions, food and beverage consistencies. May be required to assist with other food service related duties as necessary.
Education: High School Diploma or GED required.
Preferred: Associates Degree in Dietetics or Nutritional Science
Experience: Must have six months food service or CNA experience in nursing home. Associates degree in Dietetics or Nutritional Science may be accepted in lieu of experience requirement.
Preferred: Previous hospital experience with diet modifications (i.e., low salt, low fat, no concentrated sweets)
Knowledge/Skills/Ability: Must have basic computer literacy. Must be able to calculate tube feeding requirements, fluid restrictions, carbohydrate counting, calorie counting and other diet modifications. Must possess excellent interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with nursing, unit clerks. Must be able to be trained in basic medical terminology, phone etiquette, conflict resolution, holiday meal planning and inventory ordering procedures for nutrition supplements.
Pay Grade 40 (minimum hourly rate $10.99/hr)
