The NYPD strives to foster a safe and fair city by incorporating Neighborhood Policing into all facets of Department operations, and solve the problems that create crime and disorder through an interdependent relationship between the people and its police, and by pioneering strategic innovation.The Building Maintenance Section, Facilities Management Division is seeking a candidate to serve as a Welder to assist with the increased workload in the Precinct Enhancement Program, build-outs, and multiple ongoing construction projects.Under supervision the selected candidate will: - Be responsible for the operation of oxygen and acetylene welding torches- Be responsible for the fabrication for metal work, prisoner benches, cell doors, window gates, metal storage cages and emergency requests for service- Be responsible for advanced ARC, MIG, TIG, and OXCE welding along with the metal fabrication of various metal including steel and aluminum
Minimum Qual Requirements
Qualification Requirements Five years of full-time welding experience acquired within the last ten years doing electric arc and oxy-acetylene welding in all positions on both light and heavy material. Two years of this experience must have been in oxy-acetylene welding. License Requirements Possession of a valid Welder's License issued by the New York City Department of Buildings, and certified for at least Class I Restricted Qualification Shop and Field (for groove welding of materials 3/4 inches or less in thickness, and for all fillet welding, both in all positions). At the time of appointment, appointees will be required to possess a Certificate of Fitness Type G38 Torch Use of 0-2 Combustion Gas, issued by the New York City Fire Department. Employees must maintain the Welder's License and the Certificate of Fitness during their employment.
