Job Summary

South Mountain Community College is hiring a Student Services Specialist. This position works in the area of Testing Services and administers a variety of tests in a high volume college testing environment with accuracy and attention to detail. Disseminates accurate information via in-person, phone, and email communication. Will independently open and/or close the center per office schedule. Work contact includes internal and external customers such as students, staff, faculty, administrators, high school counselors/employees, other colleges and the general public. This position is responsible for the security of confidential information material housed within the Testing Center.

Essential Functions

70% - Administer and proctor a variety of college level placement and academic exams with an emphasis on accuracy, efficiency, and effectiveness, provide excellent customer service to internal and external customers, utilize internal technology and databases along with a variety of internal/external resources and websites (including the Student Information System (SIS) and ACCUPLACER) to administer and track exams as well as recording, uploading and communicating results; validate identification of testers and maintain confidentiality of student records by following all FERPA guidelines; provide detailed verbal and written test instructions, assist with data entry, maintain a secure testing environment, and accurately file all test materials, may direct the work of temporary staff and college work study employees.

20% - Communicate clearly and accurately with in-person, phone and email inquiries about testing processes and services, including specific exam processes and procedures.

10% - Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Associate's Degree in business administration, education or directly related field and one year of experience assisting with educational program development and coordination, student advisement, financial aid, or related student development programs

OR

An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation

Desired Qualifications

1. One or more years’ experience with academic testing protocols and administering the standardized college placement exams (e.g., ACCUPLACER)

2. One or more years’ experience communicating regulations and guidelines AND holding individuals accountable to them

3. One or more years’ experience managing confidential records

4. One or more years’ experience maintaining records using data bases and spreadsheets (Excel, Access or similar software)

5. One or more years’ experience prioritizing and meeting deadlines

6. Strong written communication skills as demonstrated in a cover letter and resume

7. One or more years’ experience directing the work of others and/or training other staff

Special Working Conditions

Possession of a valid State of Arizona Class D Driver's License is required; employee must meet district minimum standards regarding driving.
