What We Do
The Rapid City Public Library provides library, information, and technology services to the citizens of Rapid City and Pennington County through the downtown library, the North library at the General Beadle School, and online through downloadable materials and research databases.

Position Details
About Our Job
This position provides administrative and technical support for the Circulation and Technical Services Division of the Library. Its serves as the primary contact point for customers using the Library, ensuring a positive customer experience by determining customer needs, analyzing and solving problems, and directing customers to appropriate staff and resources.

Job duties may include:
Greets library patrons; provides initial direction and/or answers basic directional questions
Checks materials in and out, including using computer to discharge them from patron record and accurate re-shelving of materials.
Issues library cards
Answers questions from public regarding library policies and procedures.
Prepares incoming library materials, including searching database and creating, modifying, or transferring records
Prepares and processes new materials; withdraws holdings from databases; maintains records and files
Provides reader's advisory services as needed
Answers telephone as needed
Assists in maintaining library collections and assists in cumulating statistics
Operates standard office equipment, such as personal computers, multi-line telephones, copiers, and printers
Assists with orienting pages, volunteers and other staff as assigned
Completes library acquisitions functions for general materials
Prepares and distributes collection documents and reports for delinquent accounts
Identifies and assigns call numbers for materials processing
Develops and checks global updates and modifications in integrated library systems

Associates degree or equivalent from two-year college OR five or more years related experience in a public library setting, including but not limited to computer software and hardware
Acceptance into a Library Technical Assistant program and continuous participation in classes until degree is obtained, degree must be obtained within three years from date of hire, and three years related experience using clerical and technical procedures, including but not limited to computer software and hardware.
