Whitman is looking to hire a Mechanical Engineer with 7 to 10 years of experience to work in our Cranbury, NJ office. The successful candidate shall be expected to manage a team of engineers in the design of mechanical systems for either existing or new applications. The candidate shall be expected to write proposals, attend client meetings, prepare invoices and perform business development activities. The candidate will also be required to perform field visits, prepare load calculations (with or without software), prepare system layout and design in AutoCAD, review shop drawings, attend meetings with contractors, owners or other consultants, respond to contractor questions, and write reports. Mechanical systems design may include HVAC, boilers (hot water and steam), chillers, cogen, industrial, pharmaceutical, labs, offices, schools, etc.

Professional Engineering (PE) license is a requirement. AutoCAD proficiency is a requirement. Minimum work experience of seven (7) years required.

Responsibilities:

  • The candidate shall be expected to write proposals, attend client meetings, prepare invoices and perform business development activities.
  • Serve as project manager/coordinator/mentor, over staff of other mechanical engineers.
  • Prepare detailed load calculations (with or without software), system layout, equipment selection, and design.
  • Supervise mechanical designers and perform QA/QC analysis for construction documents.
  • Coordinate project tasks with other disciplines to ensure compliance with specifications, codes, and customer requirements.
  • Perform field site visits to verify existing systems.
  • Review MEP shop drawing submittals and respond to contractor requests for information (RFIs) during the construction administration phase of various project types and sizes.
  • Inspect completed MEP installations to ensure conformance to design and equipment specifications and compliance with American and international design standards.
  • Be available to travel for work, approximately 3 to 5 days per month usually in the northeast US.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering with 7-10 years of project experience.
  • Professional Engineering (PE) Registration in the State(s) of New Jersey, New York, and/or Pennsylvania.
  • Strong building design engineering background in all phases of design and construction for mechanical systems including HVAC, boilers (hot water and steam), chillers, cogen, industrial, pharmaceutical, labs, offices, schools, etc.
  • Experience with other building systems (Electrical, Plumping and Fire Protection) is a plus.
  • Ability to meet fast-paced deadlines while maintaining quality design.
  • Must be capable of working individually and within a multi-discipline environment.
  • Must have good research, documentation, record keeping and technical writing skills.
  • Must possess excellent communication skills and the ability to exercise diplomacy conducive to working with clients.
  • Must have experience in designing and developing MEP projects from concept to completion.
  • Must be proficient in the use of AutoCad and have a working knowledge/proficiency of Revit and BIM.
