The Senior Control Systems Technician is responsible for planning, designing, and commissioning Industrial Control Systems, including Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) and Distributed Control System (DCS). Participates in project identification, project integration, cost estimates, and design and review of plans, specifications, and construction inspection of Control Systems.

INSTRUMENTATION AND CONTROLS MAINTENANCE

  • Perform complex implementation and installation, instrumentation maintenance, troubleshooting, calibration, programming and system administration of Process Programmable Logic controllers (PLCs), control and instrument loops, systems (SCADA) field instrumentation, chemical analysis systems, variable frequency drives, communications network systems, hazardous chemical distribution and detection systems and HMI computer work stations
  • Designs, programs, and implements new Industrial Control programs (SCADA/DCS), graphical user interface (GUI) screens, and control strategies.
  • Creates and implements complex databases and interfaces, monitoring performance to ensure high integrity and availability of corporate data.
  • Designs, implements, and supports SCADA/DCS system projects from their initial planning and conceptual stage through design, review, implementation, successful start-up, and acceptance by NBU
  • Prepares or reviews drawings and specifications for Programmable Logic Controllers

(PLC), DCS, SCADA, HMI and other related Control Systems requirements.

  • Designs, programs, and implements new Industrial Control programs (SCADA/DCS), graphical user interface (GUI) screens, and control strategies.
  • Evaluates and recommends upgrades and/or replacements for equipment, hardware, and/or software
  • Design, develop and integrate complex process control applications into existing and new process control systems
  • Prepares change orders and contract amendments; reviews and approves monthly pay estimates and schedules submitted by the contractor; and prepares and negotiates change orders.
  • Perform complex implementation and installation, instrumentation maintenance, troubleshooting, calibration, programming and system administration of Process Programmable Logic controllers (PLCs), control and instrument loops, systems (SCADA) field instrumentation, chemical analysis systems, variable frequency drives, communications network systems, hazardous chemical distribution and detection systems and HMI computer work stations
  • Assists in establishing technical strategy and solutions related to control systems, instrumentation and telemetry needs in construction projects.
  • Provides technical support and guidance to internal users and contractors (remotely and field) by diagnosing, troubleshooting, and resolving industrial control system and related technical issues.
  • Develops, plans, and conducts training for user community and staff.
  • Assists in ensuring smooth and expeditious handover of work systems to operational departments.
  • Analyze, document and maintain system databases providing graphical viewing and reporting interfaces, utilizing appropriate modeling and reporting tools and techniques
  • Update, review and prepare reports from databases with information regarding assigned work orders, equipment calibration, repair and inventory
  • Prepares request for proposals; evaluates interest statement submittals; and ensures effective implementation of professional services contracts. Reviews and tests PLC code submitted by engineering consultants, contractors and internal staff for reviews and tests Human Machine Interface (HMI) graphics submitted by engineering consultants, contractors and internal staff for adherence to project requirements and NBU standards.

EDUCATION

  • Associates Degree
  • Five years or more experience
  • Work requires knowledge of a specific vocational, administrative, or technical nature which may be obtained with a two year associate's degree, diploma, or equivalent from a college, technical, business, vocational, or correspondence school
  • Obtain a TCEQ Class C Ground Water or a Class C Wastewater License within 3 years. Will be required to gain both within 5 years
  • Valid Class “C” Texas Driver’s License consistent with NBU driving policy
  • Two years' experience in relational databases, PLC programming, SCADA/DCS programming, HMI screen design, report design and generation.
  • Proficient in data communications systems, protocols, and cabling, including wired and wireless network systems, radio telemetry and MODBUS.
  • Proficient in the use of, oscilloscopes, multi-meters, signal generators, optical cable time domain reflectometers, communication service monitors and other calibration equipment.
  • Proficiency with desktop business applications, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Visio, Access.
  • Experience in Water/Wastewater Systems is preferred
  • Must reside within a thirty minute response time of the NBU Service Center as measured by an internet mapping tool.

Job Type: Full-time

Salary: $22.26 to $32.28 /hour
