Summary of Duties:
Services vehicles by dispensing fuel, checking oil or water levels in crankcases, power steering, reservoirs, automatic transmissions, batteries, radiators, and other equipment as requested. Removes and installs wiper blades, light bulbs and similar items. Checks air pressure in tires, and inflates to correct pressure. Charges batteries and adds water or battery acid as required. Reads dip sticks in gas storage tanks. Checks for proper water level in storage tanks. May take daily meter readings of gas pumps.
May operate a cash register and accept payment for purchases. May be responsible for own change fund.
Provides World Class Customer Service with an emphasis on courtesy. Assists customers and communicates positively in a friendly manner. Acknowledges customers, smiles and makes eye contact. Asks questions to determine, verify and solve problems. Checks for satisfaction on the quality of goods and services. Takes action to solve problems quickly. Alerts the higher-level supervisor, or proper point of contact for help when problems arise.
Adheres to safety regulations and standards. Uses required safety equipment, and observes safe work procedures. Promptly reports any observed workplace hazards, and any injury, occupational illness, and/or property damage resulting from workplace mishaps to the immediate supervisor.
Adheres to established standards of actively supporting the principles of the EEO program and prevention of sexual harassment.
Performs other related duties as required.

Skills and Knowledge:
Skill to service vehicles by performing minor maintenance such as: checking oil or water levels in crankcases, power steering, reservoirs, automatic transmissions, batteries, radiators, and other equipment as requested; removing and installing wiper blades, light bulbs and similar items; checking air pressure in tires, and inflating to correct pressure; charging batteries and adding water or battery acid as required. Skill to read dip sticks in gas storage tanks. Ability to operate electrically-controlled pumps for dispensing gasoline, and to take daily meter readings of gas pumps. Ability to operate a cash register and maintain a cash fund.
Work is assigned orally by a higher-grade worker or supervisor. May be held accountable for cash receipts under the pump island control system, and the cash balance in the register. Adheres to safety regulations and standards. Uses required safety equipment, and observes safe work procedures. Promptly reports any observed workplace hazards, and any injury, occupational illness, and/or property damage resulting from workplace mishaps to the immediate supervisor.
Heavy lifting is required such as handling cans and drums of petroleum products. Lifts and carries objects up to 45 lbs independently and objects over 45 lbs with assistance.
Work is generally performed outside in all kinds of weather. There is frequent exposure to cuts and burns.
