MasTec North America, Inc. is a leading national infrastructure construction company operating throughout the United States. MasTec Utility Service Groups activities include the installation, maintenance and upgrade of communication and utility infrastructure, including but not limited to: communications, electrical and natural gas distribution infrastructure.
We are currently seeking an experienced, energetic Director of Safety to support regionally-based US operations. The role will develop, sustain, and champion a culture of safety at the regional level that reflects MasTec’s corporate commitment that all employees are entitled to a safe work environment. This position will typically work at a regional or division level. Travel is expected to be around 50%.
Promote a safe and healthy environment on all project (work) sites and office facilities.
Participate in the development and execution of a region wide Safety Plan; identify strategic and tactical priorities to reduce and/or eliminate occupational injuries, illnesses and financial losses.
Lead, develop, mentor and direct Safety Coordinators and Safety Managers.
Establish safety goals; conduct audits, analyze and track results.
Identify opportunities and implement measures to improve any deficiencies.
Remain current on regulations impacting compliance with industry requirements and client jurisdiction regulations. Disseminate such information to project based subordinates.
Identify and assess appropriate safety education training/courses for staff.
Develop and nurture relationships with industry stakeholders including partners, competitors and clients; represent and promote the MasTec-Utility Services’ brand and accomplishments.
Manage safety budget
Job Specific Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Ability and aptitude to grasp technical concepts, formalize ideas, and utilize resources efficiently
Ability to recognize hazardous situations and implement practical and feasible corrective measures
Working knowledge of Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office, and other computer applications that will be required tools for the position
Skill in aligning strategic and operational needs with safety programs.
Strong oral and written communication skills
Ability to manage people and projects from idea generation to full implementation
Ability to work with employees as various organizational levels
Skill in motivating and coaching individuals
Skill in public speaking
Bachelor’s Degree (BA/BS) from an accredited four-year college or university.
Minimum ten (10) years of related experience and training
Valid Driver’s License
Experience working in the Infrastructure Construction Industry
Experience working in Transmission and/or Distribution functions
Expert understanding of construction methods and federal, state, health and safety standards
3-5 years of management experience
Certified Safety Professional (CSP)
Associate Safety Professional (ASP)
Occupational Health & Safety Technician (OHST)
Construction Health & Safety Technician (CHST)
Certified Utility Safety Professional (CUSP)
