PURPOSE OF POSITION:
This position is responsible for leading projects of all complexity assigned to the Special Projects engineering group with a focus on repeatable orders involving Power Distribution Equipment.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Serve as lead engineer on projects for Strategic Platform Clients involving high-volume, custom-designed and manufactured products.
- Proactively suggest novel solutions to problems as they arise.
- Optimize repeatable designs for manufacturing.
- Assign day-to-day project engineering tasks to junior engineers.
- Check in with engineers regularly to identify issues that could lead to missed due dates or design issues. Find solutions to keep jobs on track. Be a resource when the design engineer has questions.
- Provide insight, product solutions and reference projects to enable success of the electrical design engineering team.
- Provide mentorship and encourage growth and technical/professional advancement in the teams.
- Complete drawings reviews. Review drawings for accuracy, application of IEM standards, industry standards and constructability.
- Provide on-boarding and training for new engineering and support team members.
- Provide training exercises for the electrical design engineering team.
- Schedule meetings with manufacturing leaders at multiple build locations that are assigned the same product to identify issues, concerns, and opportunities for improvement.
- Schedule and perform kick-off meetings for new orders and new clients.
- Work closely with applications engineering during handoff of initial Basis-of-Design.
- Work with the test department and production staff to help coordinate testing of complex products.
COMPETENCIES:
- Advanced knowledge of 3 phase electrical system design concepts
- Strong technical capability
- Understanding NRTL certifications and UL listings, eg. UL891, UL1558, UL67, IEEE C37.20, CSA
- Project/task management and the ability to carry out a plan that moves a task to completion
- Ability to interact directly with customers, sales, other technical resources and management.
- Ability to organize tasks and explain complex subjects to junior engineering team members in a way that they can understand

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience preferred.
- Minimum of 3 years of design experience in power products
- Excellent working knowledge of MS Office Suites (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, etc.).
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD drafting software.
