Full Job Description
Dimagi is a social enterprise and Benefit Corporation that builds software solutions and provides technology consulting services to improve the quality of essential services for underserved populations. Headquartered in Cambridge, Massachusetts, Dimagi partners alongside governments, leading NGOs, and foundations such as the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, USAID, and the World Bank to tackle complex health and social inequities. Our open-source technology platform, CommCare, is the world’s most widely-used and researched mobile data collection platform for frontline workers. To date, Dimagi’s team of project managers, engineers, and health experts have supported over 2,000 projects in 80 countries.
About the Position:
Dimagi is looking for a Software Engineer Intern to join our Global Technology Division. This position will be based out of our Cambridge, MA office but is also open to remote work within the United States. The intern is expected to work Eastern Time US hours. We are a growing social enterprise with offices around the world.
Our Global Technology Division helps to develop and improve our platform’s architecture and implementation. Since CommCare is used for applications related to many different types of problems, from agricultural extension education to improving delivery outcomes at birth, the software is written as a portable application engine. That means we don’t often build custom code for specific projects. Our team works from high, strategic, and functional levels on our products, down to the low technical level of implementation.
Some of the international development projects we have been involved with include strengthening community health programs, electronic medical records, care coordination, and remote data collection. We have projects in over 50 countries, including Zambia, Tanzania, Uganda, South Africa, Ethiopia, India, Bangladesh, Senegal, Mexico, Nigeria, Nicaragua, Kenya, Afghanistan, and the United States.
We are highly collaborative with partner organizations and strong advocates for open-source. At Dimagi, you will have the opportunity to grow your skillset as well as make a real impact across the world.
Required skills and qualifications
Fluency in written and spoken English
Familiarity with a high-level programming language, Python preferred
Familiarity with the principles of good test-writing, and comfortable writing thorough tests for your code
Familiarity with using a version control system to facilitate collaborative work
