Education Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing or Industrial Engineering, a related specialized area or field is required (or equivalent experience) plus a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience; or Master's degree.

Clearance Requirements:
At minimum, a current Department of Defense SECRET security clearance is REQUIRED at time of hire. Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required.

Responsibilities for this Position
GDMS has an immediate opening for a Manufacturing Engineer to fill an opening on our operations team. This position provides an opportunity to develop and advance cutting-edge technologies that support some of our nation’s core defense/intelligence services and systems. GDMS employees work closely with esteemed customers to develop solutions that allow them to carry out high-stakes national security missions.

The Manufacturing Engineer provides design, manufacture, and fabrication support on the development of mechanical and electromechanical systems, utility sub-system components, and structural systems. Scope of tasking will require candidate to be familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within manufacturing and general construction trades. Candidate will rely on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals working under general supervision, alone and/or with a team of project engineers, as specific tasking dictates. Work involves hands-on development (design, prototyping, and testing) of one-of-a-kind solutions, often in support of quick response capability (QRC) programs, subsequent manufacture of training and operational parts, components, and mechanisms. Additionally, this role will require knowledge and operation of fixed wood/metal shop equipment, power and hand tools, and potentially a range of moving equipment including forklifts, scissor lifts, pallet jacks, and trucks. The role requires working with the program team and sub-contractors in addition to direct interface with customer representatives. Candidate must be adaptable to a changing work environment, competing demands and be able to deal with frequent change, delays or unexpected events.

Hands-on manufacturing and/or construction experience and ability to work independently, or with a team of engineers and/or technical operators, to fabricate physical proof-of-concept mock-ups in a shop/highbay environment
SME-level knowledge of technical requirements and practices in one or more areas of manufacturing, fabrication, carpentry, plumbing, electrical, machining, welding, masonry, etc.
Knowledge of equipment operation, assembly, installation, repair, etc., and knowledge of materials utilized, including wood, metal, concrete, and composites
Ability to use and maintain tools, equipment, and measuring instruments safely
Ability to interpret and communicate technical requirements including verbal, design specifications, technical drawings, and written procedures

Develops manufacturing engineering plans and strategies for specific products and processes
Researches and analyzes data, such as customer design proposal, specifications, and manuals to determine feasibility of design or application
Supports the generation of technical engineering products by using appropriate standards, processes, procedures, and tools throughout system development life cycle
Plans sub tasks for activities described above
Contact with multiple work groups
Works under general supervision, received instruction from immediate supervisor
Contact with project leaders and other professionals within the Manufacturing department
May have some contact outside Manufacturing or with external customers
Provides resolution to problems of moderate scope
Failure to accomplish results or errors may cause delays or require the allocation of additional resources
Installs manufacturing process systems and conducts production qualification, forecasts and manages manufacturing process capital assets
Develops, designs, procures, and constructs manufacturing process hardware, fixturing tools, and work environment
Using lean concepts acts as a project engineer to implement cost reduction efforts
Documents procedures, process qualifications, work instructions, shop aids, etc.
Provides process analysis to support new business opportunity assessment and quoting
Defines and documents equipment calibration requirements
Identifies training for production-related activities
Monitors and controls of process parameters, and identification of special processes
Provides solutions to vendor issues as required
Monitors competitive bench marks to ensure that current processes and equipment are competitive and cost effective
Forecasts and manages manufacturing process capital implementation
Develops floor layouts
Assists product engineer with design to cost
This is the intermediate level in a field of specialization
Travel may be required
Current and transferable security clearance is required at time of hire
Ability to obtain TS-level clearance at future date is required
