Job Duties

Ohio Department of Public Safety - Distribution & Inventory Services

Report in location: 1583 Alum Creek Drive, Columbus, Ohio 43209

Under immediate supervision receive (load and unload), store & distribute inventoried items (e.g. Deputy Supply Chain (DRSC) items, supplies, forms, records, mail, furniture, equipment, etc.); stores items in a systematic manner; processes and prepares order requests; assists in performing inventories, material audits (e.g., counting & recording) and maintaining records (e.g., writing & storing information); verifies quantities and item conditions (i.e. making notations on related paperwork) to aid in record keeping and inventory control; operates material handling equipment (e.g. pallet jack, cart, dolly, forklift, order selector etc.) to move materials; operates computer, mail/parcel processing equipment, adding machine, postage machine, document shredder, bailer/compactor etc., as required to process materials. Operate state vehicle (e.g.,truck, van or car) to transport various equipment, materials & supplies (e.g., office supplies, forms, furniture, assets, correspondence, mail, records, etc.) to various locations throughout the state.

Assists other units and sections (e.g. order fulfillment, material destruction/disposal, and material transport); performs light maintenance on equipment and vehicles as needed.

Performs other related duties as required (e.g., answers phones, filing, etc.); maintains clean work area (e.g., sweeps, dusts, mops, etc.).

Qualifications

Formal education in arithmetic that includes addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions & percentages.

  • Or equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications for Employment noted above.
POSITION SPECIFIC MINIMUM QUALIFICATION: Valid Driver's License required.

MAJOR WORKER CHARACTERISTICS

Knowledge of: Inventory Control; Safety Practices (BMV & Public Safety); Public Relations; Office Practices & Procedures; Agency Policies & Procedures (BMV & Public Safety).

Skill in: Word processing (Microsoft Office); equipment operation (pallet jack, cart, dolly, forklift, state vehicle, telephone, fax, copier).

Ability to: Carry out simple instructions; read & record figures accurately; add, subtract, multiply & divide; arrange items in numerical or alphabetical order; answer telephone inquires; demonstrate strength to lift & carry up to 60 lbs.; demonstrate ability to push/pull 1000 pounds utilizing pallet jack or four wheel cart.

Unusual Working Conditions: May be exposed to extreme temperatures while working with cold storage items; may be exposed to potentially violent residents; may be subject to outdoor weather conditions.
