Job Summary
The Senior Reinsurance Accountant will perform duties within the department primarily related to reinsurance. Assist in the Preparation of Statutory & GAAP Financial Statements and handle day to day financial reporting of all activities, including ensuring accurate and timely recording of data in the accounting systems, that will assist management and others in making education economic decisions about the Company’s future. Additional responsibilities include planning, analytics, reporting and control requirements for multiple U.S. companies.
Duties and Responsibilities

- Lead and support multiple responsibilities across the reinsurance reporting and/or reinsurance systems functions within the finance department
- Direct, analyze, and reconcile various reinsurance calculation modules within the reinsurance system
- Lead and support various components of the monthly reinsurance treaty reporting process, including preparation of reinsurance reports and remittances, tracking of outstanding receivables, and all related reinsurance accounting
- Responsible for preparing and entering monthly and quarterly journal entries
- Responsible for preparing financial reporting such as internal and external monthly financial statements and annual audits
- Participate in preparation of annual and quarterly NAIC statutory financial statements
- Abide by and enforce internal controls and accounting policy, including externally required controls for SOX; ensure audit readiness and compliance; verify the integrity of all systems, processes and data and enhance the Company’s value
- Assist with financial planning and analysis including budgets, forecasts, results analysis, and capital planning
- Participate in a wide variety of special projects and prioritized initiatives
- Conform with and abide by all internal and external regulations and policies
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Understanding of generally accepted accounting principles
- Strong knowledge of reinsurance contracts, reinsurance systems, treaty reporting and reinsurance terminology a plus
- Strong knowledge of successful accounting operations and internal control processes
- Working familiarity with enterprise-level financial systems and data architectures
- Ability to cultivate and manage numerous internal and external relationships, including management, brokers, underwriters, and auditors
- Knowledge of Statutory Accounting and/or other aspects of insurance operations a plus
- Ability to be flexible in a rapidly changing environment
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong analytical skills with exceptional attention to detail
- Strong work ethic with a drive to succeed; high level of initiative and motivation
- Proactive self-starter with a bias toward teamwork
- Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple deadlines
- Intermediate to Expert level proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
Experience and Education
Staff Accountant
- Bachelor’s Degree in accounting, finance or related required
- Three years’ experience in corporate and/or public accountancy or finance roles required
- Working towards CPA designation a plus
- Hands-on accounting experience within the Property and Casualty Insurance industry desired, but not required
Staff Accountant II
- Bachelor’s Degree in accounting, finance or related required
- CPA designation strongly preferred
- Five years’ experience in corporate and/or public accountancy or finance roles required
- Two years of hands-on accounting experience within the Property and Casualty Insurance industry strongly preferred
Senior Accountant
- Bachelor’s Degree in accounting, finance or related required
- CPA designation strongly preferred
- Six years’ experience in corporate and/or public accountancy or finance roles required
- Four years of hands-on accounting experience within the Property and Casualty Insurance industry strongly preferred
