Harris Regional Hospital

The Controller is a Director Level hospital administration position within Harris Regional Hospital & Swain Community Hospital and is intended to function as a platform for CFO development. As one of the key managers of the hospital, the Controller is involved in most aspects of operations, primarily financial performance.
The position offers the potential for advancement to a Chief Financial Officer within LifePoint Health. Will assist to ensure accurate and timely processing of accounting information and to apply generally accepted principles of accounting to maintain the general accounting system of the hospital and to assist the Chief Financial Officer to ensure that all Harris Regional Hospital, Swain Community Hospital & LifePoint Health’s Financial Policies and Procedures are implemented and followed.
Reports directly to the Chief Financial Officer of the Hospital.
Inter-relationships with the Chief Executive Officer, Chief Nurse Executive, VP Operations, VP Physician Network, VP Human Resources, all hospital and clinical directors, Hospital Support Center, managed care organizations, vendors, physicians and community employers.
May lead to supervision of multiple departments with direct responsibility for all associates in those areas.

Job Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Minimum: Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance is required with a master’s degree (emphasis in Business Administration or Healthcare Administration) and/or CPA certification strongly preferred.
Experience: Minimum of 3 years’ experience in Hospital or Healthcare setting required, 5 years’ experience in a for-profit Hospital setting preferred.
Licenses/Certifications: Certified Public Accountant preferred, but not required.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS _ Responsible for gaining knowledge with a high proficiency in the areas of patient accounting, general ledger accounting/AP/payroll, third-party reimbursement, patient access, care coordination, HIM,materials management, information systems, decision support, and internal audit control structure. _ Responsible for gaining knowledge with a high proficiency of FTE productive management system witha demonstrated ability to facilitate necessary corrective actions for standard adherence. _ Responsible for gaining knowledge with a high proficiency in the employment process, wage and benefit administration, pay practices, hospital employee handbook, and general employmentlaw. _ Responsible for gaining advanced understanding of Hospital Support Center functions and processes to include CER and CAMS processing, operational reviews, contract review, contract management system,real estate, and routine reporting requirements. _ Responsible for understanding financial procedures, compliance/HIPAA, Human Resources, and Support Services. Serves as an educator and resource to department managers related to these policies and procedures. _ Responsible for understanding monthly financial close processes and functions, preparation and analysis of accounts receivable contractual reserves and allowances for doubtful accounts. _ Responsible for preparing, understanding and interpreting hospital and other financial and/or statistical projections weekly or as requested. _ Responsible for gaining knowledge with a high proficiency in utilization review, case mix, clinical documentation improvement, length of stay, coding and revenue integrity. _ Assist the hospital administrative team in developing annual budgets and strategic plan presentation packages. _ Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs,current literature, in-service meetings and workshops. _ Assist CFO in the development of accounting personnel and any other staff.
