The Stroke Coordinator performs under the direct supervision of the Directory of Neuro Hospitalist Program and in direct collaboration with the Stroke Medical Director.. Coordinates performance measurement and improvement activities for the Stroke Program. Reviews and analyzes clinical information about key aspects of patient care and collaborates with directors, managers, and physicians to improve patient care, safety, and service. Develops plans to improve patient care utilizing current industry best practices. Improves clinical outcomes and patient care related to stroke. Assures that all staff are oriented and trained in Stroke Care as required for quality patient care and to maintain Stroke Center Certification. Data entry and maintenance of data repository required for Stroke Center Certification. Acts as a liason between the Stroke Medical Director and the contracted provider of telestroke services assisting in problem solving/access issues/consistent review of quality metrics for services provided. Develops and implements Stroke Center Certification compliance strategies. Review and evaluation of unstable or deteriorating patients including Code Stroke patients; Decision making and documenting of care; review of patients going home (pre-discharge); review of patients’ progress during their inpatient stay. Demonstrates knowledge and skills to appropriately communicate and interact with the patients, families, and visitors of all age groups while being sensitive to their cultural and religious beliefs. Maintains professional relationships with other hospital Stroke Coordinators in Mississippi. Performs other duties as approved or assigned by the Stroke Medical Director. Coordinates compliance surveys and reports all corrective action plans to the regulating body of the survey. Ensures that all plans for corrective action are being completed by all departments included in the corrective action plan(s). Attends performance improvement committee and reports all stroke care improvement initiatives.
Assist as needed only in coordinating of the neurohospitalist service acting as a liason to the nursing staff, FGH physicians, and medical staff including but not limited to: EEG technicians, pharmacy, laboratory services, EPIC personnel, and radiology. Provides clinical assessment of neurological hospital service stroke patients through all phases of care, demonstrating critical thinking skills and functioning with high level of autonomy. Highly capable of triaging and transitioning from unpredictable neurological emergencies, complicated presentations of rare disorders, and cases requiring high levels of competence and compassion. Assist Neurocritical Care Director in activities approved by the Stroke Medical Director. This may include but is not limited to: Implementing and maintaining protocols for traumatic brain injury, EVD management, status epilepticus and targeted temperature management.. Assists in educating nurses in evaluation and nursing interventions for stroke patients.

Qualifications:
Education/Skills
Bachelor degree in nursing preferred. Graduate of a recognized non-online RN program required. Required to
receive initial and ongoing education and training, with focus on cerebrovascular disease and treatment of acute
stroke patients. Eight hours of education regarding current stroke management required during orientation and
annually, which includes NIHSS certification. Excellent skills in operating a computer, data entry, excel
spreadsheets with a daily dashboard update, and Microsoft Office.
Work Experience:
Requires at minimum an RN with 2+ years of experience as a neuro nurse and the ability to quickly adapt to
difference in personality and clinical style of multiple health care providers. Prior experience in quality assurance
and utilization management preferred. Must have knowledge of stroke certification standards and current
concepts of performance improvement. Management skills and organizational ability are required. A working
knowledge of data processing systems and data analysis is required.
