Meets the psychosocial and developmental needs of children and families to reduce the stress and anxiety accompanying hospitalization and other health care encounters.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Gathers information about psychosocial needs of patients and families.
Obtain daily report from nursing.
Consult with medical staff.
Meet individually with patients and families.
Document full assessment.
2. Ensure patients and families receive clinical services.
Provide patients with medical play.
Provide patients and families with preparation for medical events.
Assist patients and families with adjustment to hospitalization and diagnosis.
Provide patients and families with emotional support.
Assist with discharge planning.
3. Ensure patients and families receive developmental services.
Involve patients and families in group activities.
Ensure patients have developmental interventions bedside.
Normalize environment and routine.
4. Maintain activity room environment.
Ensure that materials and supplies are available.
Ensure that activity environment is conducive to play.
Follow infection control guidelines.
5. Supervises volunteers and students.
Ensure that volunteers/students are oriented in a timely manner.
Enable volunteer/student to provide quality interactions with patients.
Provide on-going training regarding policies and procedures.
Provide constructive feedback.
Communicate effectively with Child Life and Education internship supervisor and Volunteer Services/Student Coordinator.
Supervises special visitors and manages special events.
Required - Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university - Field of Study: Child Life, Child Development or related field
Required - 4 years total experience required, which includes 3 months of Child Life internship under a Certified Child Life Specialist (480 hours) experience
Preferred - 4 years Child Life paid in a healthcare setting experience preferred
CERTIFICATION / LICENSE / REGISTRY REQUIREMENTS
Required - Certified Child Life Specialist (CCLS) (Certification) (Candidate must possesss at time of hire)
Preferred - Knowledge of Microsoft Office
Preferred - Strong written and oral communication skills
Preferred - Strong customer service skills
Preferred - Adapts easily to varying job responsibilities
