Transportation Specialist
REPORTS TO
Manager of Transportation.
PRIMARY FUNCTION
- Under direct supervision of the Manager of Transportation, performs administrative and responsible clerical work in the functional areas of transportation and pupil accounting.
- Responds to transportation and student record inquiries from the public and district staff.
CERTIFICATION / LICENSE
N/A
EDUCATION
High school diploma.
EXPERIENCE
- Two years increasingly responsible work in clerical, administrative, or secretarial work.
- Ability to speak Spanish desirable.
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & ABILITIES
- Ability to work in a fast paced environment.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagrammatic form.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide all units of measure.
- Effective speaking and listening skills.
- Ability to deal effectively with students, parents, staff members and the general public.
- Ability to compose clear and correct letters and memos.
- Proficient in Word, Excel and Outlook.
- Ability to learn various software in use in the district
ESSENTIAL PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assists in the coordination and implementation of the District’s student transportation plan.
- Establishes transportation for students who qualify for it.
- Informs parents of transportation arrangements and pick up times.
- Confirms pick up and drop off times and locations with the bus company and schools.
- Uses portable radio to resolve transportation problems.
- Provides information, assistance and answers phone calls from parents, district staff transportation problems, and informs supervisors of unresolved transportation problems.
- Copies and forwards student records to appropriate agencies.
- Verifies residency for Magnet School applications for New Britain students.
- Acts as a liaison between parents and schools regarding bussing issues.
- Monitors bussing for field trips.
- Coordinates bussing for students for Board of Education programs.
- Coordinates bussing for highly confidential cases and/or issues for students that are homeless, in shelters and/or foster care.
- Assists the general public by researching records and providing updates and copies needed by the public for Social Security or Disability purposes.
- Makes decisions regarding bussing issues as well as performs job duties with minimal supervision.
- Receives, processes, and enters student demographic information into an automated student information system including non-public students.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES
- Prepares reports relating to transportation and student accounting.
- Prepares and processes correspondence and notices for schools, parents, and community businesses and agencies.
- Forwards bus passes to schools.
- Types other correspondence as necessary.
- Performs related clerical and office administrative work as required and assigned by supervisors or other administrators.
- Assists in covering switchboard.

SALARY & BENEFITS
Salary and fringe benefits as set forth in the Local 1186 collective bargaining agreement, Grade 6B.
WORK SCHEDULE
37.5 hours per week and overtime as needed.

Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $27.10 - $30.75 per hour
