General Summary of Position:
Under the direction of the Studio Creative Manager, the Art Direction Supervisor:
Collaborates with cross-functional teams to understand business objectives and to develop creative concepts;
Provides art direction for the execution of commercial photography to meet creative/aesthetic, technical and sales/marketing goals;
Supervises the efforts of an assigned team of Art Direction Leads and/or Photography Production Leads, Stylists and Photographers; and
Carries out established workflow processes and initiatives, generates reports, develops and monitors schedules, and holds the team accountable to meeting goals.
Bachelors Degree or Equivalent Experience
Field of Study:
Graphic Design, Photography, Visual Arts
Previous Years of Related Experience
5+ years photo production experience
3 years associate supervision and performance evaluation experience in a corporate environment.
Specific Skill Requirements
Proficient with Microsoft Office suite
Working knowledge of Photoshop, InDesign
Experience with photography, stylizing, visual arts
Specific Physical Requirements & Frequency
Lifting 20+ lbs. Some travel as needed.
Studio/warehouse environment dust, plants/food, flashing lights
Occasional outdoor/location shoots
Working with models, kids and pets
6:30 am – 3:00 pm, plus overtime as necessitated by business needs.
Essential Job Functions:
Execute department processes, strategic initiatives and tasks to meet goals and objectives to ensure efficient and effective art production.
Collaborate with advertising production, merchants, marketing and studio management to gain a thorough understanding of product features and benefits and problem solve in order to effectively convey these to the customer through compelling advertising.
Accountable for executing the production of photo shoots that adhere to objectives, standards and guidelines.
Develop ad concepts and provides art direction that satisfy business objectives and drive development of photography to support those concepts.
Prepares shot lists, most notably for model shoots, for art directed POs. Reviews shot lists prepared by Art Design Lead.
Communicate trends and areas needing improvement to team for assessment and follow-through.
Conduct and lead weekly (or more frequent as required) pre- and postproduction meetings to review photo assignments, schedules and shoots to ensure efficient and effective execution within designated timelines and budgets.
Provide clear, concise art direction of photography onset and off with product focus and a critical eye with the attention to detail necessary to ensure creative goals are achieved in a professional, stylistic and cost-effective manner.
Critique art and provide proper feedback promptly to develop associates and increase product sales.
Prepare, administer and maintain daily, weekly, and monthly reports and tracking to demonstrate workloads, maintain schedules, provide status, and maintain an organized and efficient workflow. Provide and review project status’ and team performance to the Studio Creative Manager.
Prepare, revise and report work schedules. Collaborate with the Studio Creative Manager to adjust schedules as required.
Monitor expenses, obtain approval for purchases, review invoices, prepare expense reports. Administer expense tracking and reporting per PO.
Train, coach and counsel direct reports. Immediately address issues with professionalism. Supervise job performance. Develop staff development plans. Monitor, enter and approve timecards. Provide updates to Studio Creative Manager.
Schedule and record cross-training on photo shoots and procedures.
Provide feedback, team information, statuses and problem solving to the Studio Creative Manager.
Maintain open and professional communication with Studio Creative Manager and members from Advertising and Merchandising.
Evaluate art direction lead and/or art direction project manager, stylist, and photographer’s performance, providing praise and improvement goals.
Keep abreast of marketplace and industry trends in order to help set creative and strategic objectives.
Provide back-up to Studio Creative Manager as needed.
Work overtime as needed and required.
Additional tasks as assigned.
