Growing, mid-sized personal injury law firm seeks Chief Legal Officer (CLO) to provide daily oversight of all legal operations - Personal Injury, Worker's Compensation, Social Security Disability, & Mass Torts. Must have experience as a Managing Partner in a Plaintiff Personal Injury law firm, overseeing at least 20 or more attorneys.

Reporting directly to the CEO, the CLO is responsible for establishing standards and implementing procedures to ensure a consistent compliance of the highest ethical practices across multiple practice areas – Personal Injury, Worker’s Compensation, Social Security Disability, Mass Torts, and any other new practice area.

The CLO provides oversight to all legal departments and assures the CEO that there are effective and efficient policies and procedures in place, well understood and respected by all legal staff including Attorneys, Paralegals, and Legal Assistants, and that the firm is complying with all ethical requirements.

  • Oversees all legal practices in the firm – Persona Injury, Worker’s Compensation, Social Security Disability, Mass Torts, and any new practice area
  • Manages the day-to-day operations of all legal departments
  • Develops and enforces a strong legal framework to support of the firm’s strategy and business model
  • Establishes policies, processes, and procedures to ensure a consistent framework and approach to handling cases in the firm and preventing malpractice
  • Develops internal controls that can prevent and detecting significant instances or patterns of any improper or unethical conduct
  • Assesses the current and future legal landscape related to practice areas; develops and implements a proactive plan to mitigate risks
  • Provides direct supervision on complex cases; handles significant matters that cut across multiple practice areas
  • Keeps the CEO and other members of senior leadership apprised on compliance issues and recommends proactive measures to prevent any concerns
  • Establishes metrics and reporting to provide the CEO with regular updates on the performance of the legal departments
  • Review and approve legal contracts and oversee confidentiality and employment agreements
  • Serves as firm's in-house counsel on all legal matters
  • All other duties as assigned by the CEO


  • Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school; MBA preferred
  • Licensed to practice law in North Carolina; preferred
  • 5- 7 years’ experience of practicing law in North Carolina; preferred
  • 20+ years of experience in Personal Injury, Medical Malpractice, Worker’s Compensation, Social Security Disability as a litigator
  • Jury trial experience as a plaintiff attorney
  • Management experience of at least 50 or more employees
