Senior Scientist / Principal Scientist, In Vivo Pharmacology
About the role
We are seeking an experienced, enthusiastic, collaborative and highly motivated in vivo pharmacologist to join our team. This person will play a critical role in advancing Treeline's portfolio, focusing on targets with utility for oncology and other diseases. Through the generation of preclinical data sets using animal models, advanced cell biology techniques, genetics/genomics and other state-of-the-art scientific approaches, they will play a key role in generating testable hypotheses that will be explored in the clinic. As an in vivo pharmacology project lead, they will integrate with Discovery project teams and work closely with medicinal chemists, cell biologists, DMPK, and data scientists to advance drug discovery programs to candidate nomination, enable the identification of lead target indications, and inform the development of clinical assets in early proof-of-concept trials. This person will be central to building our company's expertise in in vivo pharmacology and in driving translational strategies toward the successful development of novel therapeutics.
- Provide in vivo pharmacology leadership to multiple project teams, collaborating with colleagues to identify and address key project questions and gaps, including the definition of PK-PD-efficacy relationships in vivo, the exploration of PD and predictive biomarkers and the elucidation of target-drug and drug combination mechanism-of-action.
- Coordinate internal and external teams of scientists to execute a variety of in vivo and ex vivo approaches including CDX/PDX, GEMMS and syngeneic tumor models, as well as diverse cell biology techniques to assess the behavior of small molecules and their modulation of targets and downstream pathways – e.g., phenotypic assays, cell co-culture assays, tumor explants, and immune profiling by flow cytometry.
- Design, coordinate, interpret and communicate the results of in vivo studies aimed to assess the activity (PK-PD), mechanism-of-action, safety and efficacy of candidate molecules, including as part of rational drug-drug combinations.
- Ph.D. in Life Sciences, ideally with an oncology focus, with 5+ years of experience in biotech/pharma industry, including demonstrated success in the discovery and development of therapeutics for cancer.
- A strong focus on mechanism-of-action, pharmacodynamic (PD) and predictive biomarkers, mechanisms of resistance, rational combinations and the identification of potential new indications for novel therapeutics.
- Experience with immuno-oncology models a plus, but not required.
- Successful track record of being part of a multidisciplinary team spanning different scientific areas - g., cell biology, DMPK, medicinal chemistry, structure-based drug design, etc.
- Experience driving small molecule drug discovery programs: advancing programs through lead optimization to candidate selection and first-in-human studies in the clinic. Experience in preclinical development and working with Regulatory Affairs to support IND-enabling studies is a plus.
- Demonstrated experience in advancing innovative new ideas and concepts, inspiring and motivating teams and taking initiative to solve complex biology problems.
- Attention to detail, highly organized and ability to coordinate large numbers of in vivo studies.
- Ability to interpret and communicate complex data sets to non-pharmacologist colleagues with clarity and frank objectivity.
- Strong written and oral communication skills, excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to work collaboratively on multidisciplinary teams.
- Experience initiating and directing out-sourced activities at CROs, especially in vivo work with rodent models of cancer (CDX, PDX, GEMMs, syngeneic models, systemic models of heme cancer, etc.)
- High-level of motivation, ownership and dependability.
This position is classified as exempt. The anticipated annual base salary range for candidates who will work in San Diego is $136,118 - $175,679. The final base salary offered to the successful candidate will be dependent upon several factors that may include but are not limited to the type and length of experience within the job, type and length of experience within the job, education, and other factors. Treeline Biosciences is a multi-state employer, and this salary range may not reflect positions that work in other cities or states.
