The candidate will serve in NYC DOT’s Bike Share Program, which is responsible for planning and oversight of the Citi Bike system, dockless bike share services, and planning and piloting of other potential shared micromobility services. Citi Bike is a public transit service run via a public-private partnership and is among the largest and most successful bike share systems in the world. It currently consists of over 15,000 bicycles at more than 800 rental stations in Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Queens; it will expand into new neighborhoods and boroughs over the next four years, ultimately doubling the size of its existing service area and tripling its number of bikes.
Under the direction of the Executive Director and senior program staff, the candidate will perform very responsible work in the supervision, planning, implementation, coordination, monitoring, and/or evaluation of the Citi Bike Program, which provides important community mobility services. Duties shall include: coordinating bike share equipment siting and installation with community stakeholders, including City agencies, public utilities, partner organizations, property owners, community organizations, and residents; preparing planning documents required for funding; evaluating locations for potential bike share stations and assisting with bike share siting and fieldwork activities; selecting bike share station locations in consideration of both community context and the effectiveness of the bike share network; conducting inspections of bike share equipment and services; encouraging bike share ridership in underserved communities; providing authoritative interpretation of complex problems related to bike share planning, operations, and community coordination; prepare evaluation reports and perform analyses regarding the performance of bike share services, their operators, and utilization by the general public; make recommendations on policies and procedures regarding DOT’s planning, oversight, and management of bike share services, and implement such policies and procedures; assist with community outreach for expansion of bike share into new neighborhoods, and respond to public concerns; assist in the creation and maintenance of GIS maps/data files; manage and analyze fieldwork data; produce maps, charts, PowerPoint presentations, and other materials; and perform related duties.
Minimum Qual Requirements
1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties described above; or
2. High school graduation or equivalent and six years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties as described above; or
3. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" or "2" above. However, all candidates must have at least one year of experience as described in "1" above.
Strong preference for candidates having experience working with the public, community groups, DOT, and other New York City agencies and demonstrating the ability to work collaboratively and inclusively to effectively communicate with all stakeholders. Strong preference for candidates with demonstrable GIS skills. Preference given to candidates demonstrating strong creative and analytical problem-solving skills and having experience or interest in transportation dynamics, transportation policy, bike share, and/or cycling. Strong verbal and written communication skills, advanced statistical analysis skills and proficiency with associated software programs, including but not limited to MySQL and Python or other analytical programming languages all desired.
