Summary: Assists with the care of patients in the Material Newborn Center.
1. Clinical: Performs basic, routine and specialized tasks in assigned department, under the supervision of a registered nurse.
a. Observes, monitors, and reports changes in patient’s condition, symptom, reactions or behavior as appropriate.
b. Provides support during interpretable and neonatal procedures that may require surgical skills, instruments, and equipment
c. Prepares OR for operative cases, including infant resuscitation equipment.
d. Acts as scrub assistant during OR surgical procedures.
e. Meets patients’ needs (to include providing baths, linen changes, bedpans, water pitchers, etc.)
f. Assists with ambulation, positioning, elimination, personal hygiene, activities of daily living, routine comfort measures,
g. Transports patients and transfers patients between stretcher and bed.
h. Provides nourishments as requested and authorized by orders, including distribution and collection of meal trays as needed.
i. Participates in shift report, reports observations, and any change in status to RN.
j. Maintain the comfort, privacy, and dignity of each resident in the delivery of services to them
k. Prepares necessary carts, equipment and instruments.
l. Assists in vaginal deliveries as needed.
m. Prepares instruments, supplies, and equipment for physicals, circumcisions, and other procedures as needed
2. Environmental: Maintains a clean, safe, organized work environment.
a. Prepares patient rooms for admissions.
b. Counts sterile instruments/sets at the beginning of each shift, orders necessary supplies to maintain par levels, etc.
c. Breaks down LDR’s, OR, and Nursery treatment areas immediately after procedures are completed including the collection, removal and appropriate disposal of dirty linen, trash, body fluids, and contaminated instruments
d. Distributes supplies to designated storage areas when they are delivered to unit
e. Checks par levels of supplies and restocks as needed.
f. Maintains utility, storage, nourishment and nursing station areas orderly at the end of each shift.
g. Checks sterile supplies for sterility integrity, where applicable
3. Administrative: Assists in the timely collection and accurate reporting of patient data.
a. Observes, monitors and records vital signs and nursing care procedures on the indicated section of the patient care flowsheet.
b. Assures that documentation is accurate.
c. Assist with other administrative duties as assigned.
Education: High School Diploma or Completion of accredited surgical tech program
Certification: CPR Certification
Experience: Preferred 1-2 years in a hospital setting on a Maternal Child unit
