Reporting to the Senior Director of Digital Marketing Strategy at CU Anschutz Medical Campus, the Social Media Manager works collaboratively and strategically to manage the social media presence for the Campus utilizing our brand standards. The Social Media Manager will develop social media content that supports social media strategy for the CU Anschutz Medical Campus, while overseeing the management of the social media content calendar. This includes platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn and YouTube.
The Social Media Manager is responsible for strategy, planning and implementation to lead successful digital engagement with key audiences via social media and other digital platforms in support of the University’s strategic goals. This role coordinates with campus communication teams, in addition to school, college and department leadership, to ensure that campus digital engagement and social media activities are fully integrated with other efforts across the portfolio.
In this position you not only oversee support staff, but will create, schedule and post organic and paid social media content to the official campus social media channels, monitor and respond to social media commentary on behalf of the University, and create original, compelling story content for all social media platforms.
As our social media expert, you’ll need to have a thorough understanding of the ever-changing social media landscape. You know how to nimbly and rapidly adapt tactics. You deftly interpret and leverage social media analytics. You’re well-schooled and passionate about digital multimedia.
You’ll also need to be a highly skilled storyteller, with expertise in curating, creating and promoting amazing stories, and writing engaging social copy to support them.
Additional responsibilities include executing photography and videography, and harnessing your brilliance and creativity to develop innovative, effective social media marketing strategies.
Examples of Work Performed:
Oversee support staff and facilitate university social media strategy, plan appropriate implementation measures
Develop and manage overarching social media strategy, including digital advertising, and plan appropriate implementation measures
Advise and assist university schools, colleges and departments on digital advertising and social media strategy, facilitate integration across strategies and tactics
Audit existing digital engagement tactics, suggest optimizations or plan new strategies or methods to improve digital experiences for key audiences
Identify target audiences and build custom audiences and personas to optimally deliver content
Manage University Communication’s digital engagement to ensure it aligns with established strategy and is appropriate for each unique digital platform
Identify opportunities and methods to evolve content marketing, including developing, shaping and repurposing content for key audiences, including video storytelling
Utilize data combined from various sources, including web analytics, to establish benchmarks and prepare consistent insights reports. Measure impact and success of plans and highlight key information, trends and opportunities to improve user experience and digital engagement. Identify means/processes to implement insights
University-wide training in digital engagement and social media best practices
Provide POVs on new or relevant digital engagement technology, strategies or tactics
Implement issue or crisis communications plans when appropriate to disseminate information to the public via social media, coordinate with administrative or academic leadership, general counsel, University Police, among others
Manage assigned budgets for targeted initiatives and ensures proper processing and documentation of expenses
Evening and weekend hours for monitoring, responding to posts, issues management, among other activities across various social media platforms
Manage production of high-quality photo and video, have an eye for high-performing social imagery and video content
Develop digital content utilizing the brand voice and visual identity of the University
Flexible and willing to handle other marketing and communication duties as assigned
Salary and Benefits:
The hiring range for this position has been established at $75,000 to $85,000.

Bachelor’s degree in marketing, journalism, communications, public relations or a related field
3-5 years of progressively responsible experience in digital engagement, marketing and social media for a professional organization
Experience supervising and mentoring staff
Experience with social media, display, and pay-per-click advertising and media buying across social media platforms
Key Performance Indicator identification, planning, goal setting and conversion optimization
Experience with marketing automation software applications and implementation
Strong experience executing social media strategy in a professional or business environment
Strong experience creating visual content using Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Lightroom, Illustrator, Premiere Pro and After Effects)
Demonstrated leadership and success in digital engagement and social media strategy development and execution, including management and monitoring of digital marketing and social media properties and tactics
Enthusiasm, flexibility, and patience to the role to a fast-paced, fun, and collaborative environment
Demonstrated ability to write dynamically for new media that captures attention and interest, harnessing the voice of our campus
Proven track record producing engaging video content for social media properties using best practices
Ability to participate in and facilitate creative brainstorming sessions to inform social media tactics and strategies
Ability to manage diverse workload under deadline pressure; skilled at handling multiple priorities in a shifting social media landscape
Capable and driven to proactively recommend ideas on how best to leverage digital engagement strategy and tactics for the benefit of the university and its campuses
Committed to staying up to date on latest digital engagement trends and able to educate others within the university on how to utilize new techniques
Outstanding presentation and collaboration skills to drive ideas, gain credibility and build rapport with all types of internal and external stakeholders.
Analytics and performance reporting (quantitative and qualitative metrics) to measure the impact of digital engagement and advertising of the university and its competitors
Ability to interface with colleagues at all levels of the organization
Good project management skills
Very strong analytical abilities, balanced by a depth of creativity to approach challenges in a unique way
Self-starter who can work both independently as well as in a team environment
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Flexibility to work outside regular business hours when needed to address issues or capitalize on trends
