The Office is seeking an experienced individual to support the Litigation Department

.

Positions & Duties

This position is responsible for performing paralegal duties related to litigation for the Rent Stabilization Program of the Housing Department. The successful candidate will be self-motivated, detail-oriented with good analytical skills, a team player who possesses strong organizational and computer skills, and will have good oral and written communication skills. Typical assignments may include, but are not limited to, gathering and evaluating evidence through investigative research, which may include inspecting properties, interviewing tenants, complaints, landlords, and other witnesses; obtaining physical and documentary evidence; compiling, analyzing, organizing legal documents, legal research, preparing reports, and other investigatory tasks. UCL, small claims, and bilingual experience is helpful. Incumbents must be proficient in the use of personal computers and able to work with various types of software in the Windows environment.

Depending upon qualifications, the successful candidate may be hired at the Legal Analyst I or Legal Analyst II level. The annual salary range for a Legal Analyst I is $67,121.60 to $81,619.20, and the annual salary range for a Legal Analyst II is $73,257.60 to $89,044.80.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications: Training and experience equivalent to:

1. Education: Successful completion of a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university. Additional years of increasingly responsible investigations or paralegal work experience may be substituted for up to two years of the education requirement on a year-for-year basis. Completion of a Paralegal program, or possession of a Paralegal certificate, may be substituted for one year of the required experience or education requirement.

2. Experience: Legal Analyst I: Three years of increasingly responsible investigations or paralegal experience, of which at least one year has been at a level comparable to an Associate Legal Analyst with the City of San José. Completion of a Paralegal program, or possession of a Paralegal certificate, may be substituted for one year of the required experience or education requirement. Legal Analyst II: Six years of increasingly responsible investigations or paralegal experience, of which at least three years has been at a level comparable to a Legal Analyst I with the City of San José. Completion of a Paralegal program, or possession of a Paralegal certificate, may be substituted for one year of the required experience or education requirement.

Selection Process

The selection process will consist of an evaluation of the applicant's training and experience based on the application, resume, answers to the job-specific questions, practical exercises, interview, references, and background check, including obtaining criminal history records.
