Job Title: Checker
Position Summary:
The Dock Checker is responsible for ensuring the accuracy and integrity of all shipments received and dispatched at the dock. This role involves verifying the contents of incoming and outgoing shipments, documenting discrepancies, and ensuring that all cargo is handled safely and efficiently.
Key Responsibilities:
- Shipment Verification:
- Check incoming and outgoing shipments to ensure accuracy in quantity, description, and condition.
- Compare shipment contents with shipping documents such as invoices, packing lists, and bills of lading.
- Document and report any discrepancies, damages, or shortages to the appropriate personnel.
- Documentation and Record-Keeping:
- Maintain accurate and detailed records of all incoming and outgoing shipments.
- Complete and file all necessary paperwork, including delivery receipts and inspection reports.
- Update inventory records to reflect received and dispatched goods accurately.
- Coordination and Communication:
- Coordinate with warehouse staff, truck drivers, and other departments to facilitate smooth and timely dock operations.
- Communicate effectively with supervisors and team members regarding shipment status, issues, and any special handling requirements.
- Ensure proper labeling and documentation of all shipments.
- Safety and Compliance:
- Follow all safety protocols and guidelines to ensure a safe working environment.
- Inspect dock and shipping areas regularly for safety hazards and report any concerns to the supervisor.
- Ensure compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements.
- Inventory Management:
- Assist with inventory counts and reconciliation of discrepancies.
- Ensure proper storage and handling of goods to prevent damage and loss.
- Assist in maintaining a clean and organized dock and warehouse area.
- Equipment Operation:
- Operate forklifts, pallet jacks, and other warehouse equipment as needed.
- Perform routine maintenance and safety checks on equipment.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Previous experience in a shipping, receiving, or warehouse role preferred.
- Ability to lift and move heavy objects, and to stand and walk for extended periods.
- Basic computer skills for data entry and inventory management.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Knowledge of safety regulations and best practices in a warehouse environment.
Work Environment:
- This position operates in a warehouse and dock setting, with some outdoor exposure during the workday.
- The role routinely uses standard warehouse equipment such as forklifts, pallet jacks, and hand trucks.
- The noise level in the work environment can be loud at times.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift, push, pull, and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to stand, walk, and sit for extended periods.
- Manual dexterity required for operating machinery and handling small parts.
