RED is seeking an organized and passionate individual to join their management team as an Event Coordinator & Assistant Floor Manager. RED is a fast-paced, fine dining restaurant located in downtown Madison specializing in sushi. The Lead Host will be responsible for providing leadership to a team of hosts at RED and will be the first point of contact for our guests. The Assistant Floor Manager’s job is to ensure that the service staff is supported so that they may perform to the highest degree and represent RED accordingly. This position is perfect for an individual who has a passion for the service industry and is looking to be hands-on in a restaurant setting.


Job responsibilities of the Assistant Floor Manager follow in two parts:

Floor Management – Being an active and positive presence on the floor 2-3 shifts per week. Floor managers are responsible for:

  • Upholding and enforcing all of RED’s protocol and policies at all times.
  • Being a positive, kind, and genuinely hospitable energy among staff and guests.
  • Overseeing and managing servers, hosts, and front of house staff to ensure a smooth service.

o Having the knowledge of what each position provides during service, understanding responsibilities of each position, and acting as a stand in for anyone who needs assistance on the floor.

  • Working alongside kitchen and bar managers to create a positive atmosphere and provide great guest service.
  • Preparing floor charts for service, handling check outs, petty cash, collecting sales report information, and writing end of shift wrap-up e-mails.
  • Interacting with guests regularly and treating each table as if it were your own.
  • Lending a hand to the service staff by actively running food, filling waters, and assisting where hands are needed.
  • Reporting incidents or negative guest experiences to the appropriate management staff.
  • Upholding the notion that the guest comes first.

Lead Host

Purpose: This position manages the flow of the restaurant, greets arriving guests, welcomes them into the establishment and seats them.

  • Timeliness – must arrive to each shift dressed and ready to go prior to clock-in
  • Greeting each guest who walks through the door with a smile and genuine hospitality

o Maintaining a pleasant composure at all times: relaxed, poised, a genuine smile
o During inclement weather, offer to take jackets, coats, or umbrellas. Hang them neatly in the coat closet.

  • Seat guests accordingly - Be aware of other guests already dining.
  • Answering incoming phone calls / returning voicemail messages.

o Knowledge of downtown Madison, business hours, contact information, specials, and general information.
o Pass voicemail messages along to the appropriate staff members, if any.

  • Taking reservations in accordance to our reservation policy.

o Maintain full knowledge of our OpenTable software & updates in order to ensure reservations for guests.

  • Maintaining the wait list by taking names and numbers while providing incoming guests with accurate wait times.

o Communicate with guests by text message or phone call once the table is ready.
o Alert a manager when a wait becomes longer than expected so the manager can keep in communication with the guests waiting.

  • Act as a point of contact for pick-up orders.

o Greeting the guest, confirming the order type (online or phone), completing payments with servers for phone orders, bagging orders and double checking them to guarantee accuracy.

  • Ensure each menu given to guests is clean and free of food marks, wrinkles, or folds.

o Clean laminated menus at the end of every shift.
o Request menus from FOH managers as needed.

  • Communicate effectively with all necessary staff regarding any allergy notes, special requests, or complaints of guests.
  • Communicate seating towards the end of the night when servers are being cut.
  • All eyes on the floor: Walk around to double check where tables are at in their dining experience, see if there’s anything you can lend a hand to. Alert manager of any issues, negative guest interactions, etc.
  • Field large party reservation requests via phone, walk in and email Respond to large party inquiries in a timely manner,

providing guests with reservation information (minimums, final payment processing, etc.),

  • Direct and provide consistent communication with the culinary, service staff, and management team.
  • Listens to and resolves customer complaints regarding service, product and personnel involving/notifying management

The right candidate for the Assistant Floor Manager / Lead Host will possess the following qualities and abilities:
 Several years of experience in the service industry either on a high service level, supervisory, and/or managerial level.
 A high school degree with further education in a related field is preferred, however, RED is willing to hire anyone who has the creative and leadership skills for this position as achieved through work experience.
 Strong verbal and written communication skills along with the ability to articulate intents, goals, delegations, etc.
 The ability to learn quickly, listen and read for comprehension, and work efficiently.
 A sense of responsibility, genuine hospitality, and love of the service industry.
 The ability to spend multiple hours standing, moving, or walking the service floor.
 The ability to spend multiple hours seated at a desk and/or viewing screens.
 Patience, understanding, and compassion for others.
 Bilingual in Spanish speaking is a plus.
