Airgas, a leader in the chemical industry, is looking to formalize our approach to procurement. Supporting up to 7 different operating companies, the Procurement Manager will drive for efficiencies in key categories between our different companies. This role is a cross between a Procurement Manager and a Financial Analyst. We are looking for someone who is customer centric and analytical to dig into our P&Ls to examine spending in key categories across the different companies and departments. You will be primarily responsible for: 1) Identifying the categories; 2) Setting category strategy; 3) Negotiating new and direct partnerships with key brands to improve terms; and 4) Expanding selection.
What will I be doing?
As a working manager, you will act as the category owner for your respective vendors, possessing a complete understanding of internal and external variables that impact the business. This entails owning forecasting, monitoring and reporting on suppliers, along with responsibility for driving strategic projects to achieve business objectives. Needless to say, this is a very analytical role. Overall responsibilities include:
Manage new and existing vendor relationships (manage supplier/partner contracts and day-to-day relationships).
Conduct Procurement analytics to identify trends and determine future looking insights and determine optimal ways of forecasting.
Lead the development of sourcing strategies and solutions that deliver efficiencies across our different businesses. Meet with key customers routinely and proactively advise customer stakeholders of sourcing and contract value opportunities. Develop and negotiate long-term supplier contracts with support of the corporate procurement team, business units.
Create business plans for new opportunities and develop and execute project plans for the launch of new products that provide direct cost savings for the business.
Implement multiple strategies leveraging Total Cost of Ownership, Lease vs. Buy and Economic Value models.
Develop commercial agreements clearly detailing service level expectations, roles and responsibilities, continuous improvement initiatives and consequences of failure to deliver on expectations.
Develop short and long range strategic operational objectives to enhance the effectiveness of sourcing solutions that align with the organizations strategic plan.
Develop, review and evaluate financial and productivity reports to identify areas for potential expense reduction and operational improvement, by leveraging the sourcing process.
What we’re looking for?
10+ years of experience in buying/purchasing/sourcing or vendor management
Bachelor's degree majored in business, finance, analytical or related majors. (mathematics, computer science/engineering, statistics, economics etc.). An MBA or related graduate degree is a plus
Professional experience in negotiating with internal and external stakeholders
Advanced proficiency with Excel and extracting data through varied reporting tools in order to drive and influence business decisions
A thorough understanding of the P&L, with an ability to research what goes into this for each business
Ability to understand multiple business models and how they all come together to drive the overall organization
Ability to prioritize work in a complex, matrixed environment
Must be a team player at executive levels to collaborate with business units and functional partners like IT, finance, HR, legal, etc. You must be adept at adjusting to different cultures between different operating companies
Experience with modern sourcing techniques and procurement systems
A willingness to roll up sleeves to get things done
Strong communication skills - speaking, writing, presenting and negotiating
Ability to operate simultaneously and effectively in both tactical and strategic modes
