The Associate Category Manager Position is responsible for providing support in managing category leadership solutions for CVS for the Mars/Wrigley Confectionery businesses. This includes Chocolate Candy, Non-Chocolate Candy, Gum, Mints, and Snacks. This role is expected to provide fact and insight based solutions that drive growth for the confectionery Category, CVS, and Mars/Wrigley. This role is the primary insight provider for our categories at CVS that lead to marketplace actions. The preferred candidate would have strong analytical skills, a strong ability to utilize shopper insights, and develop a full understanding of our products, assortment, pricing, placement, shelving, promotion, and merchandising. The preferred associate must be excellent at building and maintaining strong relationships, proactive and successful in providing best in class Category insights and recommendations both externally as well as internally.
Reporting to Category Team Leader- MWC/CVS, This role is part of the Category Leadership organization.
Work collaboratively with external/internal partners to develop and activate growth strategies and tactics for the confectionery categories; develop, communicate, and implement a Customer Penetration plan for CVS everyday Confectionery portfolio.
Create and plan category leadership solutions that deliver profitable sales growth CVS. These solutions should include shopper and category insights across: products/ assortment (everyday/ new products/ promoted/ seasonal), placement and everyday shelving and merchandising, pricing (everyday, seasonal, and promotional), promotions and seasonal merchandising
Where appropriate, manage and deliver against the responsibilities of the Category Captaincy/Advisory process in partnership with CVS.
Influence the customer by identifying specific opportunities, assist with any research and lead projects to deliver category leadership solutions benefitting both CVS and the Confectionery Category.
Be comfortable with, and utilize, best in class category tools and resources to bring solid category insights to the buyer. Tools include, but are not limited to the following: IRI, Nielsen, syndicated and panel database resources, JDA, space management software, Nielsen ASO Incrementality tool, market research findings, etc.
Identify specific research opportunities (shopper, consumer, etc.) to bring new learning to category leadership solutions.
Execute all agreed to category leadership solutions with CVS to include success measures and detailed follow through.
Evaluate/ monitor all customer category leadership solutions, turn analysis into recommended action and continually improve to be more effective and efficient for category and CVS.
Leverage insights and resources through the utilization of a broad range of data sources, market research findings, tools, analyses, and technology to continually bring new shopper ideas to CVS and Mars/Wrigley; incorporate in all category solutions for CVS.
Must be able to confidently present to internal and external leadership business partners.
Context and Scope:
The CVS Associate Category Manager will have the authority to develop and lead key Category Management strategies and initiatives in support of Chocolate, Non-Chocolate, Gum, Mint, and other Mars/Wrigley Categories at CVS. The work from this role will heavily influence category and brand strategies for Mars/Wrigley at CVS. Business building recommendations should be geared towards not only impacting Mars/Wrigley businesses at CVS, but also focus on driving growth results for the broader Confectionery categories at CVS. Strategy development sourced from this position should play a key role in influencing in-store merchandising, promotional activity, pricing, and assortment within CVS. Driving Category growth is the primary goal and should be leveraged to position Mars/Wrigley as a powerful Category Management captain/leader with CVS.

1. Education & Professional Qualification
1-3 years of experience in Sales or Category Management
Business Analytics skills or experience
Experience in CPG and/or retail
The knowledge, skills, and abilities typically acquired through the completion of a Bachelor's degree, or equivalent work experience
Experience working with syndicated data software (i.e., IRI or Nielsen)
Experience working in Assortment Planning or Space Management Software (i.e. Apollo, Intercept, JDA etc.)
Experience with promotional / non promotional strategy development
Experience working with Microsoft Office programs specifically Excel and PowerPoint
Strong communication and collaboration skills
Ability to manage cross functional/multi task projects
Strong strategic problem solving skills
Solid written, verbal, and presentation skills
Ability to manage conflicting priorities and meet deadlines
The ability to travel of 10% of the time
Successful completion of a drug and background screen
3+ years of experience in Sales or Category Management
1+ year of business analytics experience
Sales experience would be a plus, but not required
Solid knowledge of Marketing Research and Strategy
Experience in project development and partnering with large strategic retail customers
Shopper Insights knowledge
Advanced data mining experience including shopper loyalty card and household panel data
