Essential Job Functions
Accurate Prescription Handling : Receive and verify written prescription or refill requests to ensure all information is complete and accurate.
Medication Storage : Maintain proper storage and security conditions for drugs.
Customer Interaction : Answer telephones and respond to questions or requests with a friendly and helpful attitude.
Support Pharmacists : Perform duties assigned by a licensed pharmacist.
Quality Control : Routinely check work areas to maintain high standards of quality control.
Order Interpretation : Read and interpret physician’s orders, transcribing them into the pharmacy computer medication profile.
Medication Dispensing : Fill bottles with prescribed medications, type, and affix labels.
Blister Packs : Dispense medications into cold seal blister packs or bottles according to orders.
Customer Assistance : Assist customers by answering questions, locating items, or referring them to the pharmacist for more information.
Pricing and Filing : Price and file filled prescriptions accurately.
Equipment Maintenance : Clean and help maintain equipment and work areas.
Sterilization : Sterilize glassware according to prescribed methods.
Patient Profiles : Establish and maintain patient profiles, including medication lists.
Inventory Management : Order, label, and count stock of medications, chemicals, and supplies, entering inventory data into the computer.
Supply Management : Receive and store incoming supplies, verify quantities against invoices, and inform supervisors of stock needs.
Aseptic Techniques : Transfer medication to sterile syringes using aseptic techniques.
IV Solutions : Add measured drugs or nutrients to IV solutions under sterile conditions.
Robotic Machines : Supply and monitor robotic machines that dispense medication.
Insurance Claims : Prepare and process medical insurance claim forms and records.
Pharmaceutical Preparations : Mix pharmaceutical preparations according to written prescriptions.
Urgent Orders : Respond to on-demand calls for “STAT” orders, pick-ups, and deliveries.
Narcotic Delivery : Perform narcotic deliveries to nursing units, ensuring accurate records.
IV Admixtures : Prepare IV admixtures under pharmacist supervision.
Compound Preparation : Prepare compounds for inpatient/outpatient use under direct pharmacist supervision.
Outpatient RXs : Prepare outpatient prescriptions to be dispensed after pharmacist approval.
Team Collaboration : Attend and participate in pharmacy tech meetings to exchange ideas and achieve department goals.
Medication Management : Check and remove outdated meds routinely and maintain records.
Billing : Perform billing using appropriate computer functions, reason codes, and dates.
Order Management : Assist with checking in orders, putting orders away, and filing associated paperwork.
Customer Transactions : Operate cash registers to accept payments from customers.
Charge Computation : Compute charges for medication and equipment dispensed to in-patients.
Delivery : Deliver medications and pharmaceutical supplies to patients and nursing stations.
Stock Management : Price, stock, and mark items for sale.
Home Healthcare : Maintain and merchandise home healthcare products and services.
Continuous Education : Continue to educate by attending drug in-services and keeping up with policy changes.

Working Conditions
Must be able to bear weight of 50 pounds or more.
Requires constant physical activities including standing, walking, lifting, bending, stooping, pulling, stretching, turning, grasping, squatting, kneeling and reaching.
Visual acuity to determine the accuracy, thoroughness and quality of work assigned.
The ability to see details at close range (within a few feet of the observer).
Aural acuity to receive detailed information through oral communication, often from persons with speech impairment.
Safety-sensitive position pursuant to A.R.S. 23-493.
Required Education and Training
High school diploma or its equivalent.
Pharmacy Technician Certification.
Registration with the AZ Board of Pharmacy.
Certified employees must complete a minimum of twenty (20) hours of continuing education (CE) during each two (2) year recertification cycle. Any CE hours earned after January 1, 2015 must be in pharmacy technician specific subject matter. For recertification candidates, one (1) hour of the twenty (20) hours must be in the subject of pharmacy law and one (1)hour must be in the subject of patient safety (refer to the ACPE definition of patient safety in the ACPE Policy and Procedure Manual, topic designation 05).
Cashier experience.
General record keeping and assisting the public.
Special Requirements
Obtain/maintain Arizona Department of Public Safety Fingerprint Card at employee’s expense.
Complete annual Tuberculosis Testing.
Complete in-service training as required.
Mandated federal, state, and local communicable disease testing as required.
