Spire Alabama is seeking a Senior Accountant to work in the Birmingham, Alabama location.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Prepare and post journal entries, perform account analyses and reconciliations
Generate internal financial statements
Perform monthly closing responsibilities
Assist in review financial information for quarterly and annual reports to the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC)
Train and assist staff with accounting procedures and problem solving
Assist in organizing the monthly closing process, including: preparing monthly schedules and coordinating schedule with other departments
Assist in preparation of the FERC form 2
Generate accruals, estimates, etc. recorded during the monthly close
Regular attendance is considered an essential job function
Train and guide less experienced team members
Work on special projects and requests
Perform other quarterly/annual projects, such as: providing information for the annual budgeting process; assisting the Company’s external auditors with quarterly/annual reports
Providing information for the FERC Form2 for the Public Service Commission annual report

Required Education: (may include certifications, licenses and registrations)
Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in Accounting or Finance
A minimum of 3 years of Corporate Accounting/Financial Reporting on-the-job experience or equivalent experience
2 years of experience in journal entry preparation, financial statement review, and with the monthly closing process or equivalent experience
Preferred Education: (may include certifications, licenses and registrations)
One year of on-the-job experience using SAP and/Oracle or equivalent experience, preferred
Preferred knowledge, skill and abilities:
Knowledge of the SAP and/or Oracle system, preferred
Physical demands, work environment and work schedule:
Normal Work Environment – Work is normally performed in a shared office environment.
Typically, 8 hours a day, Monday through Friday. Travel may be required.
Overtime required for monthly, quarterly and annual closing and other due date driven projects
