JOB DESCRIPTION
POSITION: Staff Dentist
SUPERVISOR: Dental Director

- JOB SUMMARY: Provides competent dental care to dental centers’ patients according to the policies/procedures of CAA and within the Ohio scope of practice, dentist’s licensure and experience
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Examines individuals requesting care, diagnoses their dental/oral conditions, prescribes and carries out or directs other in carrying out appropriate dental/oral treatment, or refers individuals for specialty consultation/treatment in accordance with approved clinical protocols and guidelines
- Records patient-dentist transactions as they occur in the patient’s dental record so that the dental record accurately and completely reflects the nature of the contact, the condition of the patient and the care or treatment provided. In addition, the Staff Dentist shall complete referrals, data collections and other records or paper works as shall be required from time to time by the corporation
- Educates individuals in the nature of oral health related conditions and in the general promotion of oral health related disease prevention
- Serves on the performance improvement committee and other committees as assigned by the Dental Director
- Prepares specific reports as requested by the Dental Director
- Serves as clinical preceptor for dental students as assigned by the Dental Director or COO
- Assists in the provision of technical assistance and dental health education to the community as assigned
- Designs, develops and implements appropriate Dental Department policies, protocols and procedures as directed by the Dental Director and in accordance with the most current accepted professional standards
- Assists in the provision of continuing education, on-the-job training and the orientation of community health and dental center staff
- Participates in short- and long-term program planning for the agency including development of dental goals and objectives
- Provides consultation to the COO and the Board of Directors regarding dental and oral health issues in the absence of the Dental Director
- Travels when necessary to fulfill the corporation’s needs and attends meetings as necessary to represent the corporation and/or the Dental Department
- Assists in the coordination and integration of the corporation’s dental programs and services with other corporate programs and services for the welfare of the corporation’s patients
- Responsible for full personal compliance with all applicable federal, state, local and center rules, regulations, protocols and procedures governing the practice of dentistry and the clinical provision of dental care as well as those relating to, but not limited to, personnel issues, work place safety, public health and confidentiality
- Participates in recruitment/retention activities of the corporation
- Follows CAA policies/procedures including current HIPAA regulations
- Other duties as assigned
- REQUIRED JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
- Current license to practice dentistry in Ohio
- Current DEA registration
- Able to become and remain covered by federal tort malpractice
- Current CPR certification required
- Biennial continuing education as required to maintain licensure
- ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS AND CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
- 1 year of experience in ambulatory rural dental center is preferred
- Effective interpersonal communication skills
Background check including Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation, Medicare exclusion list, verification of valid driver’s license, employment medical exam, including a TB test, adherence to all CAA policies/procedures and requirements of all funding sources.
CAA is a drug/alcohol-free and smoke-free workplace and post-offer drug and alcohol testing is required.

- 90-day probationary period
- PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to lift/carry up to 50 pounds
- Ability to push, pull, carry, lift, bend, twist, reach, sit, stand for lengthy periods of time; ability to walk for extended periods of time
- Ability to work in a fast-paced and often high-stress environment as well as the ability to adapt quickly to workload changes
- Ability to deal with inside and outside clientele in a diplomatic and courteous manner while assuring adherence to CAA policies/procedures
- WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Various noises associated with a busy clinical setting
- Numerous interruptions
- Constantly changing dental environment
- Ability to work at varying locations as assigned
- Ability to work with potentially hazardous clinical substances and equipment
- Frequent exposure to communicable diseases, body fluids, toxic substances, medicinal preparations, radiation and other conditions common to a clinical environment
- Exposure to chemicals and substances common to an office setting
- Ability to remain calm and cheerful under stressful working conditions
SALARY: FLSA CLASSIFICATION:
Dependent upon qualifications and experience Hourly, non-exempt/ Salaried, exempt

All patients and employees are required to wear masks. Shields are also available. Disinfecting of all locations is done daily. Hand Sanitizer and disinfectant soap is available at all locations.
