Laurel House is looking to hire two full time positions based out of the shelter location. The hours are 12:00pm-8:00pm and 7:00am-3:00pm. There will need to be some flexibility between the two shifts. Please send resume and cover letter to Britni Harris no later than July 30, 2018

Responsibilities:

  • Provides hotline callers with crisis and supportive counseling, information and referrals, and assistance with safety planning
  • Screens and admits hotline callers seeking shelter for domestic violence, properly documenting relevant information
  • Orients new residents to communal living and shelter life; sees that paperwork to be completed and/or signed by residents is done so properly
  • Conducts intakes of women in shelter, properly documenting each
  • Provides women in shelter with one-on-one supportive/options counseling in such areas as goal planning, domestic violence education, safety planning, etc., assisting them in working towards their goals by providing them with information on available resources and services; for example, housing, finances, health care, legal etc., and properly documenting each meeting
  • Facilitates house meetings (as applicable)
  • Facilitates process by which women exit the shelter, including checking rooms for readiness for the next woman and conducting exit interviews (when possible)
  • Communicates/reviews each woman’s activities at every shift change
  • Takes responsibility for the security of the shelter, its contents and the well-being of the women and their children
  • Conducts long intake within 48 hours of admission (or delegates to another counselor)
  • Ensures that resident service plan is updated and signed by resident on a weekly basis
  • Some Fiscal and Community Outreach Responsibilities
  • Management responsibility for a portion of the shelter caseload and directs follow-up activities for part-time relief advocates, volunteers and interns
  • Works with counseling department and shelter manager to plan and oversee programming for daily resident group meetings
  • Primary point of contact for any Spanish speaking clients and hotline callers if bi-lingual
  • Responsible for the overall appearance of the shelter including office space.
  • Responsible for greeting donors and ensuring the paperwork is complete
  • Responsible organizing and putting away donations
  • Provides residents with one-on-one legal advocacy/legal options counseling in such areas as PFA filing, custody issues, crime victims compensation eligibility, etc.
  • Ensures that every resident has been given the legal packet and all women are provided with information regarding Crime Victims Comp
  • Ensures that all daily tasks get completed- all resident chores are completed by resident or staff
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Proficient Microsoft Office Skills-word, excel, PowerPoint
  • CPR/First Aide (may be completed upon hire)
  • Criminal check and child abuse clearances will be required
  • Associates required BA/BS preferred
  • PCADV approved domestic violence training certificate (may be completed upon hire)
  • 2 years residential and/or experience working with domestic violence survivors
  • Must be able to lift 40 pounds
