The Memphis Express of The Alliance of American Football is seeking a part-time, seasonal communications professional to assist with publicity and gameday efforts. The Communications and Public Relations Assistant position includes, but is not limited to, football information such as press releases, game notes, daily updates, gameday press box coordination, roster updates, and website content. This position will assist on a day-to-day basis and on gameday and work under the Director of Team Communications. This is a seasonal position that runs from February through the end of the 2019 The Alliance season in April. Selected candidates must be available to work a flexible schedule including nights, holidays and weekends.
Assist with related communications responsibilities, such as press releases, facilitating interviews, assisting with personnel content, producing game notes, writing recaps, among other items
Prepare and disseminate the gameday materials including, but not limited to, stat packs, lineups, rosters, game notes, and recaps
Assist with research and archiving
Assist in the press box and locker room on gamedays
Assist with the organization’s social media efforts working closely with content team in helping create compelling and relevant digital content that advances the brand
Assist in consistently thinking of ways to tell the story of The Memphis Express and its team, players, coaches, and fans, and brainstorm creative and relevant methods of promoting those stories
Represent the organization in a positive and professional manner at all times
Other duties as assigned
Minimum Education and Experience Required:
Bachelor’s Degree in communications, journalism, public relations or a related field is required
Minimum of 1 year of full-time experience with a professional team, league, collegiate athletics department, preferred. In lieu of full-time experience, a series of internships
A record of success in fulfilling media needs in a timely and efficient manner
Efficient worker who can balance multiple projects and complete everything by deadline
Assists in all media matters pertaining to every area of team, as designated by Team Communications Director.
Assists with non-football related media matters (entertainment, community relations, business and marketing, etc.).
Ability to work both independently and as a team member
Assist in coordinating interview requests with players, coaches and front office staff
Strong interpersonal skills and a service mentality when working with media
Represent the team in ethical and professional manners at all times
Excellent proofreading and editing skills
Working knowledge G-Suite by Google
Working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, including InDesign, Acrobat and Photoshop
Strong knowledge of sports, specifically football
Strong organization and time management skills; ability to multitask
$2500 per month (Feb. 1-May. 31)
