Colleges, Housing, and Educational Services (CHES) is a multi-funded organization within the Business and Administrative Services (BAS) division at the University of California (UC) Santa Cruz. CHES provides leadership in the areas of college student life and residential services, housing services, facilities, employee housing and capital planning, dining services, conference services, early education services, the Bay Tree Bookstore, ID card services, and business and financial analysis for these areas.

Business and Financial Analysis (BaFA) provides general oversight of the Colleges, Housing and Educational Services' (CHES) budget, capital management and deployment and division debt and capital obligations. Specific responsibilities include budgeting and fiscal management, human resource management, management analysis, long-range planning and business-operations management. BaFA delivers timely and accurate business plans, financial reports and other financial, business services, and human resource documents and reports as requested. BaFA also provides oversight for development, review, and implementation of financial and human resource policies and procedures.

Under the direction of the Director of Business and Financial Analyis, the Principal Financial Analyst is responsible for developing revenue budgets and forecasts based on student occupancy data, which is the driver for unit revenue projections.

The incumbent works with a great deal of independence and is responsible for providing financial support to the Associate Vice Chancellor, the Director of Employee Housing & Capital Planning, and Planning & Budget regarding CHES capital financial plans. The incumbent has primary responsibility for developing and maintaining the units' 10-Year Business Plan and long range capital planning model. The incumbent provides recommendations and advice to CHES financial managers with budgetary planning or financial decision-making exercises and requests.

The Principal Financial Analyst develops reports, financial models, and spreadsheets as required to support operational planning and financial management. The incumbent also develops training materials and instructs CHES financial managers and analysts on the effective usage of the financial tools and reports. The Principal Financial Analyst is the primary financial contact for capital planning and works in close collaboration with the BaFA Director and the Director for Employee Housing & Capital Planning.

Work site location will be located in Scotts Valley, CA.

Some travel between Scotts Valley and Campus may be required.

Qualifications include:
Bachelors Degree in a related area and/or equivalent experience or training.

Advanced knowledge of finance policies, practices, and systems.

Ability to identify, collect, and analyze information from multiple sources.

Advanced analytical skills that allow for budgetary, financial and related management information

In depth ability to use multiple spreadsheet and database software tools, Microsoft Visual Basic and Power Tools, and other data visualization tools to gather information for specialized, complex financial analysis, fiscal management, and financial reports.
